Here's what's trending for July 18.

The race for Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District is expected to be close. However, when it comes to fundraising, it's a blowout. In newly released reports, incumbent Democrat Congresswoman Susan Wild revealed her campaign raised $1.5 million in the latest quarter, leaving her campaign with $3.85 million to spend between now and election day. Republican St. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie's campaign says it pulled in $404,000 in the second quarter, leaving his campaign with $365,000 cash on hand. Wild was not challenged in this spring's primary, however Mackenzie was forced to spend in order to turn aside a pair of GOP competitors.

Authorities in Palmer Township are searching for the driver that seriously injured a cyclist then fled the scene. Police say a man on a bicycle was hit by a car while riding on Greenwood Avenue Tuesday night. The cyclist was taken to the hospital and is currently in the ICU. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Palmer Township P-D.

Allentown City Council voted Wednesday night to say that homelessness should not be criminalized. The vote came after council rejected an "Unsheltered Bill of Rights" last month. The resolution received overwhelming support, passing 6-1. Councilmember Daryl L. Hendricks, a retired police captain, cast the dissenting vote. "My concern with this is I don't think I need special rules or regulations on how I'm going to treat somebody," Hendricks said. "I feel very strongly everybody needs to be treated equal, and this becomes a slippery slope when we start specializing individual groups. Where is it going to lead us to?"

The investigation continues into last weekend's assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump in Butler. Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger says that local law enforcement notified the Secret Service ahead of last Saturday's Trump rally that they were not in a position to secure the building from whose rooftop the shooter opened fire. Local authorities say the Secret Service was told that they did not have the manpower to take on the responsibility of securing the AGR building at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Trump and two others were injured in the shooting while one rally-goer was killed and Secret Service agents fatally shot the would-be assassin.

A crowd gathered Wednesday night in Buffalo Township for a candlelight vigil in memory of Corey Comperatore. The former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company chief was killed this past weekend when he was shot while shielding his family from the bullets of an assassin at a rally for Donald Trump in Butler County. A public visitation will be held for Comperatore today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Laube Hall in Freeport. A private funeral service will be held tomorrow.

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez denies broadcast reports that he will resign after being found guilty in his federal corruption trial. NBC News reported Menendez made the decision yesterday following the verdict. But in an interview with CBS News, Menendez denied he plans to resign. He told the network such reports are efforts to force him to make a statement. The veteran Democrat was found guilty of accepting cash and gold bars in exchange for official favors involving two New Jersey businessmen. He could face decades in prison when he's sentenced on October 29th. His wife, Nadine, will stand trial on the same charges later this year.
