Here's what's trending for April 18.

Attorneys for Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger filed their client's alibi defense just ahead of the deadline. The 29-year-old Monroe County native and DeSales University graduate is accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students in November of 2022, and has pleaded not guilty. Late Wednesday, Kohberger's lawyers submitted a ten-page filing that claimed he was out driving in the early morning hours of November 13th, "as he often did to hike and run and/or see the moon and stars." They say data from his cellphone will confirm his alibi and plan to call an Arizona-based cell tower data expert to at least partially back up his story.

One person had to be flown to the hospital after being struck by a garbage truck in Carbon County. The accident happened just before 10:30 Wednesday morning on W. Railroad Street in Nesquehoning. There are reports the injured person worked on that garbage truck.

Officials at Dorney Park have cut the ribbon on its newest thrill ride, the Iron Menace. The ribbon cutting happened Wednesday morning. Iron Menace suspends riders 160 feet in the air before plummeting at a beyond-vertical, 95-degree drop. The roller coaster also features four inversions and speeds up to 64 miles per hour.

Charges have now been filed against the parents of a 22-month-old child who died in April 2021. Jayleen Rivas-Rodriguez and Jorge Suarez-Santiago are now both charged with third-degree murder for the death of their toddler. Investigators say the child died from fentanyl toxicity. Both parents were regular heroin users at the time of the child's death and admitted to using heroin hours before the child's death. Investigators allege the little boy ingested a lethal amount of fentanyl while under the care of his parents.

More than a year after an explosion devastated a Berks County chocolate maker, a federal judge has ordered the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission to turn over inspection records to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is in charge of investigating the explosion. The order requires the PUC to produce inspections stretching back as far as five years ago to the NTSB within seven days. The PUC had refused to provide the documents, claiming it is not allowed to share the material because it is considered confidential security information. Seven employees of the R.M. Palmer Company died in that March 2023 blast.

A Pennsylvania congressman is seeking to pass a bill that permanently deports illegal immigrants for the practice of squatting. Dan Meuser tells the Fox Business Network the issue demonstrates the need to take care of illegal migration. "Add to migrant crime is this illegal squatting that's taking place," Meuser says. Meuser points to last week's arrests of eight illegal immigrants on drug and gun possession charges who had been squatting in a Bronx, NY, home.

Lawmakers in Harrisburg are looking to take Pennsylvania's child abuse reporting system online. The House's Children and Youth Committee on Tuesday approved a plan to create a statewide child abuse information system by the end of 2026. The new system would both update and replace the 67 different county information systems, and be run by the state Department of Human Services.

Three construction workers are dead following a work zone crash on Wednesday. It happened well before sunrise yesterday along I-83 in York County. The workers were all on the shoulder when a box truck slammed into a construction vehicle before hitting them.

The 76ers are advancing to the first round of the NBA playoffs after beating the Miami Heat 105-104 in the seventh-place game of the Play-In Tournament. Head coach Nick Nurse says after a terrible first half, the team's offense flowed better in the second. "Second half, the offense was so much better that we were back and set on defense and ready to play. We moved some matchups around. Our offense is what carried us, I think, in the second half," Nurse says. The 76ers will play the New York Knicks in round one of the playoffs.
