We don't want our children forced by their school to be vaccinated and we don't want their school to force them to mask up when classes resume in a month-and-a-half. That was the point of a rally at the corner of Cedar Crest Boulevard and Tilghman Street Sunday. "We are looking to let people know that we want options for our children. We don't want anything forced on our children. We don't want anyone to feel like they are forced to wear a mask or forced to get a shot," says Bethney Finch, who was one of the parents voicing their opinion. She says if a child is vaccinated against COVID-19 it shouldn't matter if another student isn't vaccinated or wearing a mask.
A man is under arrest following an hours-long standoff over the weekend in Carbon County. Police say it started around 4 o'clock Saturday morning in Nesquehoning. Police aren't releasing many details, but neighbors say they saw a woman being taken from the scene in an ambulance. Hours after they reported seeing that, the man was taken into custody.
A person is recovering from injuries they suffered after falling through a bridge into water at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. Police say a lineman operating heavy machinery was trying to cross a bridge that connects the golf course to an island when the worker and the equipment fell through the center of it. OSHA is investigating the situation and officials say more information could be released later today.
A church in Stroudsburg is going to be making repairs after a car crashed into it. The incident happened Sunday morning when a vehicle smashed into The Redeemed Christian Church of God on Ann Street. Two women were in the car and a few people were inside the church of the time of the crash, but nobody was reported injured. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
It's one of those Lehigh Valley summer weeks. Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says thunderstorms are possible at least through Wednesday, beginning later today. "A heavy thunderstorm could pop up at some point during the mid-to-late afternoon and evening hours," Lundberg says. If we get that thunderstorm, it could dump enough rain in a short period of time to cause street flooding and flooding in poor drainage areas.
Work search requirements are in effect once again for unemployed Pennsylvanians receiving benefits. Department of Labor and Industry say effective Sunday individuals must start certifying they have looked for work. They're also urging unemployed Pennsylvanians to visit www.pacareerlink.pa.gov for job search and training assistance, help creating a resume and more.
In Somerset County, groundbreaking has taken place for the Patriot Park Global War on Terrorism Memorial. The location is a short distance from the site where Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. Organizers say the memorial will be a place to honor those affected in the global war on terror. Planners hope to have phase one of the project completed in time for this year's 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
It was a good news-bad news scenario for the Phillies Sunday. The good news was a 5-4 win in Boston. The bad news was the announcement four Phillies had to be placed on the COVID list. Phillies manager Joe Girardi said, "We had a plan. It wasn't like it was sprung on us at like 9 o'clock this morning. We pretty much knew Saturday after the game that this was the likely scenario, so you've gotta deal with it." Pitchers Aaron Nola, Bailey Falter, Connor Brogdon and third baseman Alec Bohm were all scratched from Sunday's game after Bohm tested positive and the three pitchers were determined to be close contacts. Bohm will miss a minimum of 10 days after his positive test. The Phillies are off for the All-Star break until Friday.
