The GIANT Company's website and mobile app are back online after a weeklong outage caused by a cyberattack on its parent company, Ahold Delhaize. The digital platforms were restored on Tuesday (October 20) at 9 a.m., allowing customers to resume online shopping.
Ahold Delhaize detected a cybersecurity issue on October 12 and took some computer systems offline as a precaution. The company, based in the Netherlands, assessed the incident and worked to limit its effects. Despite the disruption to online services, GIANT's physical stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations continued to operate normally.
"We appreciate our customers' patience and understanding over the past several days while we were offline," a GIANT Company spokesperson said. "We apologize for any inconvenience customers have experienced."
According to WBAL TV, there is no evidence that customer or employee information was compromised during the cyberattack. As a gesture of goodwill, GIANT is offering a discount to affected customers. Online shoppers can get $20 off any order of $75 or more using the code "welcome back 20."
Additionally, digital coupons from the weekly ad have been automatically loaded onto store cards and are valid through Thursday (October 22). Choice points set to expire at the end of October will now remain valid through November 30.
