A 24-year-old Tobyhanna man faces several charges for an Allentown hit-and-run from last month. Tyler Monzietti allegedly hit a child and her grandmother while the two were legally crossing the street at the intersection of 6th and Hamilton streets back on May 16. Investigators say video footage shows Monzietti making an illegal left turn and striking the two victims. The video shows Monzietti getting out of his vehicle and running over to see the child bleeding from her face and then leaving for about 20 minutes before he returned to the scene and identified himself to police.
The Allentown Zoning Hearing Board has approved two appeals involving an apartment complex. The applicant is proposing “Hanover Apartments,” multi-family buildings featuring 307 rental units at 2300 Hanover Ave. That number is down slightly from a previous proposal of 317 units. The project would be built on land straddling the boundary between Allentown and Bethlehem. The project now heads to the Allentown Planning Commission for approval.
The Easton Area school board voted Tuesday night to adopt a final $223 million budget that requires a 3.5% tax increase. For property owners in the City of Easton the annual tax bill will increase, on average, by $164. In Forks Township, the average increase will be $302, in Lower Mount Bethel Township the increase will be $115, and in Palmer Township, the average tax bill will rise by $249.
Several injuries are reported after a two-car crash in Northampton County. The crash happened after 9 Tuesday night in the 3200 block of Newburg Road in Upper Nazareth Township. Three people were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are not known.
A late night crash caused part of Route 22 in Lehigh County to be closed for about an hour. A car and a motorcycle crashed in the westbound lanes of 22 between the exits for 15th and Cedar Crest around 11:15 last night. There's no word of any injuries.
New Jersey lawmakers have reportedly reached a budget deal that keeps state spending at record highs of $60.7 billion. The New Jersey Globe confirms the deal includes an extra $100 million for the property tax relief program for senior citizens known as StayNJ. The deal comes only days before the constitutionally-mandated deadline of July first. The $60.7 billion budget is what Governor Sherril had promised to deliver when she made her first budget address in March.
FIFA has confirmed that President Trump will attend the World Cup Final in New Jersey. President Trump will present the World Cup Trophy to the winning team following the game at MetLife Stadium on July 19th. The FIFA President usually presents the trophy, and this will mark the first time since 1982 that a head of state has presented it to the winners. The President's attendance is sure to lead to even higher security measures for fans attending the games, who are already going through extensive security screenings.
Just before the Phillies' 14-9 win over the Nationals, Phillies manager Don Mattingly had to scratch Kyle Schwarber from the lineup due to back tightness. After the game, Mattingly said Schwarber should be okay. "He's feeling better already. This has kind of happened before. Kyle is smart enough to know to take care of it and stop right away rather than keep going, so that's a good thing," Mattingly said. Schwarber is listed as day-to-day.
The 76ers drafted Alabama guard Labaron Philon Tuesday night. Team president Mike Gansey says the newest Sixer will fit in just fine. "He was pretty high on our board. We were surprised he was there. He's got some toughness. I think he's going to fit Philly. He plays with an edge. He plays with a swag. He's not afraid," Gansey said. Philon averaged 22 points and five assists in his second and final season at Alabama.
