Here's what's trending for June 22.

Last weekend, a 45-year-old man was fishing while standing in the Delaware River in Easton before being swept away by the current and drowned. Sunday, another man drowned in Easton. Emergency crews were called out to the Lehigh River near Larry Holmes Drive just after 4:30 Sunday afternoon for a reported drowning. After about an hour-long search, the man'a body was pulled out of the river. At this point, investigators are not saying anything about what led up to the drowning, but Easton City Councilman Frank Pintabone says rescue crews told him had the victim been wearing a life jacket, he likely would've been saved.

While the weekend weather was nearly picture perfect, we really could use some rain. Accu-Weather's Carl Erickson says that's exactly what we'll be getting later today. "It's been a dry month so far, so it's going to be beneficial. But it may come with the risk of some localized flooding depending on how intense those local downpours are today," Erickson says. Any thunderstorm could dump enough rain in a short period of time to cause some ponding on roads.

A on-the-job accident led to an employee losing both legs over the weekend. Police say a call came in just before 6:30 Saturday morning for an incident at East Penn Manufacturing Company. Authorities say the man involved in the accident is in stable condition but lost both his legs. In a statment, the company says, “We are working with authorities to do an investigation of the accident, and we will respond in a way that will continue to uphold our utmost concern for everyone’s health and safety.”

Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley returned to his Whitehall High School roots this weekend, hosting the Saquon Barkley Alpha Invitational flag football tournament at Zephyr Stadium. Barkley explains why giving back to his community matters to him. "It's who I am. I wouldn't be where I am without it. I will never forget that and I know that," Barkley says. The tournament supports underserved youth and families.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry its May 2026 unemployment report. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was at 4.2 percent for the fourth month in a row in May. The PA rate remained one-tenth of a percentage point below the U.S. unemployment rate, which was also unchanged over the month at 4.3 percent. The Commonwealth’s unemployment rate matched its May 2025 level of 4.2 percent.

Tensions in the Middle East have been causing gas and oil prices to soar. This comes as negotiations between the U.S. and Iran this weekend to reach a peace deal are currently underway in Switzerland. Senator Dave McCormick says those prices are coming down. "Gas prices are down under $4 in Pennsylvania. I think people understood that we needed to take action against Iran to protect our children against a nuclear Iran. But, those gas prices really hurt working families and they're seeing real relief," McCormick says. Gasoline prices are averaging a little more than $3.93 a gallon today according to AAA, which is lower than the $4.00 a gallon a week ago.

Pennsylvania is being ranked in the bottom half of states in terms of patriotism. WalletHub's 2026 list of the "Most Patriotic States in America" ranked each state based on 13 indicators of patriotism, including military enlistment, veterans, voter participation and number of AmeriCorps volunteers per capita. Pennsylvania took 38th place. The most patriotic state was listed as Virginia, while the least patriotic spot went to Arkansas.

America's oldest former congressman, Frank Guarini, who represented a Hudson County district for 14 years, has died at 101. Guarini, who passed away Saturday, was also the oldest living former statewide candidate and former state senator. No other New Jersey member of Congress has lived as long. A decorated World War Two veteran, Guarini spent much of his life in politics. His accomplishments in Congress included helping bring the New York Giants to the Meadowlands, revising the Internal Revenue Code, and serving as a House expert on international trade. He was also part of the first U.S. trade mission to China.
