Nazareth police are reporting a frightening road rage incident from last week. Police say on the afternoon of April 27th, a man came to the police station to report an incident in which Vincent Ferraro allegedly pulled a gun after the victim nearly collided with Ferraro's truck as the victim was pulling out of a driveway. The man says Ferraro stopped, started yelling at him, threatened to physically harm him and displayed a handgun. The man says he raised his hands, left the area and headed to the Nazareth PD. Ferraro is under arrest facing multiple charges.
Almost two weeks after being hit by a vehicle in Lehigh County, a 48-year-old Washington Township man has died from his injuries. Richard Erickson was hit by a vehicle on the afternoon of April 20 in the 5800 block of Route 873 in Washington Township. Sunday morning, Erickson died at the hospital from his injuries. State police are investigating the incident.
Lehigh County officials are announcing a sixth arrest in connection to a fatal shooting at a park in Allentown almost two years ago. The District Attorney's Office says 23-year-old Jose Batista-Gabin of the Bronx was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals for his alleged role in the death of 25-year-old Angel Martinez-Velez. Martinez-Velez was shot and killed on a basketball court at Fountain Park in June 2024. Batista-Gabin faces multiple charges including criminal homicide.
Gas prices soared over the past seven days according to the latest AAA East Central Gas Price Report. Across Pennsylvania, the average price for a gallon of gas was $4.52 as of Monday, up 36 cents from the week before and $1.19 more expensive than one year earlier. In the Lehigh Valley, the average price is $4.44, up 32 cents from the week before and $1.27 more costly than the 2025 price.
Firefighters contained multiple brush fires in the same area in Schuylkill County on Monday. Officials said crews found three separate fires burning a total of about 16 acres when they arrived at the scene near Vulcan Hill in Mahanoy City shortly after 4 p.m. The fires were brought under control, but authorities said one firefighter was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
Monday marked the 121st anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Police. It's also Pennsylvania State Police Memorial Day, where all 105 state police members who have died in the line of duty are remembered. "Each trooper holds a sacred place in the 121 year history of the Pennsylvania State Police. Everyone of them lived the Pennsylvania State Police call of honor. They stepped forward when others stepped back. They did not hesitate. They fulfilled their duty," said Acting State Police Commissioner Lt. Col. George Bivens at PSP headquarters in Harrisburg. The 105th name was added to the Memorial Wall during ceremonies. Corporal Timothy O'Connor was killed during a Chester County traffic stop two months ago and his widow and daughter were on hand for the ceremony.
The 76ers were just blasted Monday night in game one of their playoff series in New York. After the Knicks' 137-98 win, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said it's important to remember it's just one loss. "It's 0-1. It really doesn't matter if it's six points or 36 points, whatever the hell it was. It's 0-1 and we've gotta wash that one away and provide much more energy and physicality and that kind of stuff," Nurse said. Game two is Wednesday night in New York.
After taking an early 2-0 lead, the Flyers couldn't score the rest of the game and lost to Carolina 3-2 in overtime. Despite that, head coach Rick Tocchet said his team played a good game. "We played a good hockey game. It was well fought by both teams. I thought we played really well," Tocchet said. The Hurricanes lead the series 2-0. Game three is in Philadelphia Thursday night.
Yankees legendary broadcaster John Sterling is dead at the age of 87. His son confirmed his father died at the hospital in Englewood following complications from a heart attack. Sterling had been living in Edgewater. He was the voice of the Yankees on the radio for 36 years, calling more than 5400 regular season games and more than 200 playoff games. He retired in 2024.
