Five people, including four teenagers, are in custody after a robbery and assault in Allentown. Police say one person inside an SUV pointed a gun at the victim and fired a shot in the air near Fulton and Turner yesterday afternoon then the other four chased the victim down, attacked him, and stole his shoes. Authorities said they were found in the SUV a short time later. The department said a 42-year-old man allegedly fired the gun and was arrested along with four boys aged 14-and-15. The victim suffered minor injuries.
After a Tuesday hearing, a pair of misdemeanor charges against a Quakertown High School student still stand. The student was back in court seeking to have disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges tossed, but her attorney says the judge denied that request. More serious charges against the girl had already been dismissed. All charges stem from an anti-ICE protest back in February. Students walked out of school and eventually engaged in a violent confrontation with police.
The body of an 87-year-old Heidelberg Township man was found in Jordan Creek under Geiger’s Covered Bridge. The body of William Arner was found just after 9 o'clock Tuesday morning laying face down in the creek under the North Whitehall Township bridge. The Lehigh County Coroner's Office says Arner was supposed to be fishing and when he didn’t return home, family members became concerned. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
State officials are warning there could be more brush fires in the coming months after the blaze on Blue Mountain. The Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry says spring is the "big fire season" in the Commonwealth with dry conditions outdoors. The Blue Mountain fire burned a total of 87 acres but is now completely contained. A growing number of townships in the area are issuing outdoor burn bans in hopes of preventing another brush fire.
There's no word yet on what happened Tuesday night at a popular Allentown bar. Police were called to East Siders Bar & Grill on Union Boulevard just before 11 o'clock last night.
A person was reportedly hit by a vehicle in a grocery store parking lot yesterday. Police said a pedestrian was struck outside of a Giant in Salisbury Township in the afternoon. No other details have been released, including if the pedestrian was injured.
Today's record high will probably go by the wayside this afternoon. "The record is 86. I think that's going to disappear pretty easily," says Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says today's high will hit 89, breaking the record last reached 32 years ago. Tomorrow's high will also be 89, which would be one degree below the record of 90 set in 2012.
A Pennsylavnia man is pleading guilty after threatening to kill President Trump and other officials. In April of last year, 33-year-old Shawn Monper of Butler was taken into custody after he threatened to kill Trump, other government officials and ICE agents in videos posted on YouTube under the user name "Mr Satan." According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Monper has pled guilty to "two counts of threatening to assault and murder United States officials and federal law enforcement officers with the intent to impede, intimidate, interfere with, and retaliate against the officials and agents while they were engaged in, and on account of, the performance of official duties." Monper now faces decades in prison at sentencing, which has been scheduled for August 12th.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is signing on to help with security during the NFL Draft. Officials will help enforce a security zone on the three rivers in downtown Pittsburgh. No commercial or recreational watercraft will be permitted in the restricted area without approval from the U.S. Coast Guard. Up to 700,000 visitors are expected in the city for the draft April 23rd through 25th.
New Jersey Assembly members are now considering a bill to allow police officers to treat people's allergic reactions with an Epi-pen injection. Monmouth County State Senator Declan O'Scanlon sponsored the bipartisan measure, which already passed in the senate. He says it would require training on how to properly administer the shots of the allergic reaction-reversing drug epinephrine, and would give departments the choice of whether to allow their officers to carry Epi-pens.
World Cup fans taking train rides through New York City to get to this summer's matches at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey may reportedly pay over 100-dollars for return train rides. Sports news site The Athletic was first to report sources familiar with the plans say NJ Transit is considering that, and will decide within a week on prices to and from the eight World Cup matches in the Meadowlands. It normally costs $12.90 for a one way ride from Metlife to New York Penn Station. No comment to The Athletic from the host committee, which plans to post transportation plans in the coming week. A New Jersey Transit spokesperson said ticket prices for match day travel have not been set in stone, and "any reference to cost would be unconfirmed speculation."
The 76ers host Orlando tonight in a NBA play-in game. Head coach Nick Nurse says his team faces a tough task. "They're a very talented team. They're one of many teams in the league that haven't been very healthy this year. They're a really tough team," Nurse says. Tonight's winner will play Boston in round one in the playoffs. The loser will play Charlotte for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
