Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says some areas in the Lehigh Valley will see temperatures dip below zero tonight. He also says you may want to get used to that. "I think many areas are going to drop below zero tomorrow night and again Friday night because skies are probably going to be clear both nights with light winds," Lundberg says. An overnight low of -6 is forecasted for tonight, -5 for tomorrow night and a remarkable -13 on Friday night.
Following an autopsy, the Lehigh County Coroner's Office released the cause of death for a man who died after an officer-involved shooting Saturday in North Whitehall Township. The cause of death for the 27-year-old man, whose name has not been released was a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of the man's death has not yet been determined and will not until the investigation is complete.
Beginning today and for the first time ever, LANTA is either shortening bus routes or canceling them entirely to conserve fuel. LANTA Executive Director Owen O'Neil says 20 routes will be starting later and ending earlier, and six will be canceled altogether in an effort to save fuel. He says this will hopefully be a learning experience. "Whenever you face an emergency like that it makes you think what can we do for the next time," O'Neil says. He says LANTA has a limitation right now from UGI, because their supplies are being limited from one of their pipelines. He says he's been given no timeline on how long those restrictions will remain in place.
Mack Trucks is looking to create a tourist destination near the Queen City Airport. The company is expanding the hours for its history museum along the Lehigh Parkway South in Allentown, with plans to turn it into what it's calling “a destination brand experience.” Among the changes in the works are allowing visitors to drive their newest truck on a test track. Those improvements are expected to be completed by 2028. The museum is currently open to the public, but hours are limited and reservations are required.
Plans for a 324-unit residential and commercial development in North Whitehall Township are moving ahead. The North Whitehall Township Planning Commission offered its recommended conditions for the proposed development on 105 acres along Mauch Chunk Road. The development presented Tuesday night features 324 total residential units: 123 single-family homes, 73 townhomes and 128 apartments. The plan calls also for two, 15,000-square-foot commercial properties and one wastewater treatment plant. The township's board of supervisors will discuss the issue at a February 9th meeting.
Pennsylvania's gas prices are almost below the #3 mark. According to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report, the average price across the Commonwealth stood at $3.01 as of Monday, down two cents from the previous week and 35 cents less expensive than the 2025 price. In the Lehigh Valley, the average price dropped one penny from the previous week to $2.98 a gallon. That's 36 cents below the same date one year ago.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is calling for the firing of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. He mentions the tragedies in Minnesota and what he calls the "incompetence" of the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Noem. Fetterman says Noem "is betraying DHS’ core mission and trashing President Trump's border security legacy."
Speaking on ABC's "The View", Governor Josh Shapiro says Pennsylvania cities will be prepared in case of a large-scale ICE operation. "Wherever it comes, we'll be prepared. We'll be prepared in the community. We'll be prepared in the court of law. As a former attorney general, I know how to take this president to court and win and even as governor I've take him to court 19 times in his first 12 months in office. We've won every single time," the governor said. Shapiro also called for ICE's operation in Minnesota to end and for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to be removed from office.
President Trump is firmly in Stacy Garrity's corner in the race for Pennsylvania governor. Via social media, the president calls Garrity a highly respected and very popular state treasurer. He says Garrity is a true America first patriot who has been with him since the beginning and someone who will not let you down. Garrity replied on social media that she is honored to receive the president's endorsement.
Cumberland Goodwill EMS helped a woman give birth in a tractor trailer truck during Sunday's snowstorm. Officials say the newborn needed neo-natal resuscitation and was taken to a hospital with a snowplow escort. Connor White, the assistant chief with the Citizens Fire Company. "Adreneline probably played a big role in it keeping everything level until we could get there and get into the cab and help the mom and the baby. I give a lot of credit to the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety," White says. The baby and mom are both said to be doing ok.
