Carlos Oyola-Gonzalez, a 44-year-old man, faces charges of attempted homicide after allegedly shooting another man in the face in Allentown. The incident occurred on June 30 near North Morris and West Allen streets. Police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and body. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later identified Oyola-Gonzalez as the shooter once he regained consciousness.
According to lehighvalleylive.com, Oyola-Gonzalez was also charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and two counts of misdemeanor simple assault. He was arraigned on Tuesday before District Judge Ronald S. Manescu, who denied bail due to Oyola-Gonzalez's homeless status and the severity of the charges. Oyola-Gonzalez is currently held at the Lehigh County Jail.
Police investigation revealed a blood trail leading from the crime scene to an apartment on Park Street, where they found evidence of a struggle and a bullet hole in the door. A witness reported hearing three gunshots and saw two men walking in the backyard of the residence. Video footage corroborated the witness's account, although it did not capture the shooting itself.
Oyola-Gonzalez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 14, where a judge will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial in the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas. Lehigh Valley News reports that additional charges against Oyola-Gonzalez include possession of controlled substances, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest, with bail set at $20,000 for these charges.
