Here's what's trending for February 6.

Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says the worst of the wintry mix is over, but that doesn't mean we're completely out of the woods. "We'll probably pick up another quarter-inch of precipitation during the morning and midday hours until it tapers off and we don't get much of anything this afternoon. But by then the damage will have been done with the sleet and freezing rain combination icing things up," Lundberg says. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 this afternoon. Lundberg says another weekend storm may deliver snow late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.

Because of the poor weather conditions, PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limit on major roads to 45 miles per hour. Among the roads affected are I-78 in Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties, I-80 in Carbon and Monroe counties, I-81 in Schuylkill County, I-380 in Monroe County, Route 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties and Route 33 in Monroe and Northampton counties. LANTA has also announced all of its services are cancelled for the day and Lehigh Valley International Airport suggests you contact your carrier to see if your flight has been cancelled.

The issue of illegal immigration was front and center at Wednesday night's Allentown City Council meeting. In a unanimous vote, Council decided the city should try to obtain a "welcoming city" rating from Welcoming America, a national nonprofit organization. Police Chief Charles Roca told Council he backed the idea. "I think it's part of compromise. It's important that we as law enforcement maintain a safe environment for all," Roca told Council. A welcoming city is different than a sanctuary city in that a sanctuary city refuses to cooperate with immigrations and customs enforcement, a welcoming city's police department does not actively participate in immigration enforcement unless mandated by federal law.

Allentown police are identifying a second suspect in the deadly shooting at a club last weekend. Authorities said 35-year-old Pedro Paulino is facing charges including homicide for his alleged role in the shooting at the BKK Lounge early Sunday morning. One person was killed and three others were injured. It is unknown if Paulino is in custody.

A former Lehigh Valley state representative wants to be Lehigh County's next executive. Republican Justin Simmons, who served as the 131st District’s state representative for 10 years, is running for Lehigh County executive. In a news release, Simmons said he would never sign a budget that increases taxes, always support law enforcement and keep local zoning decisions under the control of local officials. Simmons was first elected to the state House in 2010 and decided not to seek a sixth term and left office in 2020. Democrat State Rep. Josh Siegel is also running for Lehigh County executive.

Crews are still working to put out a fire at a recycling center in Northampton County. Firefighters reportedly returned to Green Star Recycling in Northampton Borough yesterday to put out some hot spots. Officials said about three-dozen units from different counties were needed to get the blaze under control after it started early Tuesday morning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A missing elderly Monroe County man has been found safe. State Police in Fern Ridge say 82-year-old James Mills had been missing since Saturday afternoon, but has been found and is okay.

A protest against the Trump Administration was held outside the Pennsylvania State Capitol yesterday. Dozens gathered at the capitol steps to voice their opposition to the president's actions since the start of his term along with Project 2025 and the influence of Elon Musk. It was part of a nationwide demonstration called "50 Protests in 50 States." Organizers said the event was a "rally for equality and against fascism."

The investigation continues into a massive egg theft in Franklin County. Pete and Gerry's says it is increasing security and surveillance after about 100-thousand eggs were stolen from the back of a distribution trailer at its facility in Antrim Township Saturday night. Authorities said the eggs had a retail value of 40-thousand-dollars. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact State Police.

Traffic is flowing once again on Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia. That's where a medical jet came down and crashed last Friday leaving seven people dead. The city reopened the roadway on Wednesday. Two dozen people were also injured as a result of the crash.
