Winter is swiftly approaching and whether you're a fan of the cold or not, snow season is upon us.

While some states are warmer than others this time of year, it's never a bad idea to spend some time in what has grown to be considered one of the "best winter destinations" in the U.S.

Be it perfect temperatures (in states where sunshine trumps snow), fun ski resorts, stunning scenes, or winter activities for the whole family, something about this unique place lands it on top of the list of the best winter destinations in Pennsylvania.

According to a list compiled by Reader's Digest, the best winter destination in Pennsylvania is Philadelphia. This location was praised for its cozy lodges and "magical" Christmas lights.

Here's what Reader's Digest had to say about the best winter destination in the entire state:

"Although outdoor destinations are plentiful in the Pennsylvania countryside—the Poconos, the Laurel Highlands, and Pennsylvania Dutch Country to name a few—winter is also a great time to visit the City of Brotherly Love. The Blue Cross Riverrink Winterfest runs through the season, with ice skating, cozy lodges and warming cabins, and magical lighting overlooking the Delaware River and Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Philadelphia’s indoor historic and cultural sights are a welcome respite from the cold—visitors shouldn’t miss Independence Hall, Liberty Bell Center, Franklin Institute, and the Philadelphia Art Museum.
