Lehigh County is considering implementing a burn ban due to severe drought conditions. The county commissioners are set to vote on the proposal on Wednesday night. The ban comes as concerns mount over drought conditions across the region, with the Green Lane Reservoir in Montgomery County so dry that it's attracting people for different reasons. "You can walk from shore to shore. It's really incredible," said Becky Ferguson, a local resident, in an interview with WFMZ-TV.
The ban is being considered after major brush fires in nearby Northampton and Berks counties, which have burned hundreds of acres. Northampton County has already put a burn ban in place, with fines for violations. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has also announced a ban on building fires on State Game Lands due to the ongoing drought conditions. The ban will remain in place indefinitely until conditions improve, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
