Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an apparent injury during his team's Monday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mahomes appeared suffer a non-contact injury and needed assistance after throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to Samaje Perine with 14:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, and was taken to the Chiefs' medical tent. Mahomes returned to play on the ensuing possession, throwing for his third touchdown pass of the game and second to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, putting the Chiefs ahead, 24-17, with 4:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The three-time Super Bowl champion had previously rolled his ankle during the Chiefs' Week 8 road win against the Las Vegas Raiders but didn't miss a snap.

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Monday Night Football analyst Troy Aikman speculated that Mahomes appeared to fall hard on his hip during the touchdown play.

The Chiefs entered Monday's game as the last remaining undefeated NFL team at 7-0 despite Mahomes, widely regarded as the league's best quarterback, having uncharacteristic individual struggles through his first seven games. The two-time NFL Associated Press MVP entered Monday's game with 1,651 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions on 154 of 225 passing.
