Pennsylvania lawmakers are giving drivers the option of community service if they can't afford their fines. The legislature approved the plan in an effort to help people avoid jail time. Republican state Senator Pat Stefano says when people can't pay their traffic tickets, they face the choice of driving illegally or not driving at all. He said not driving is not an option for many people in rural Pennsylvania. Numbers from Harrisburg show drivers didn't pay nearly $4 million in fines between 2019 and 2022. The proposal is now on the governor's desk, waiting for his signature.

State officials are issuing a warning about the risk of wildfires in Pennsylvania. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says there is an elevated chance of wildfires due to recent dry conditions fueled by unseasonably warm temperatures and low humidity. DCNR is urging anyone lighting fires outside to keep combustible items at least ten feet away and have water nearby to put out any embers. They added that 99-percent of Pennsylvania wildfires are started by humans, and a single spark can turn into something dangerous.
Many people are remembering the eleven lives lost during the largest anti-Semitic attack in American history. A memorial ceremony was held yesterday at Pittsburgh's Jewish Community Center to mark the sixth anniversary of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting. President Joe Biden, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, and Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey are among the elected officials who publicly acknowledged the anniversary as well.
New Jersey election officials report record turnout for the first weekend of early voting in the state. They say voters cast more than 135,000 ballots on Saturday, the first day of early voting in New Jersey. Another 599,905 voters have sent in their mail-in ballots, more than half of the mail-in ballots that were sent to voters who requested them.
New Jersey lawmakers are considering a bill that supporters say would protect used car buyers. But advocates worry it would give buyers little recourse if their car has a dangerous recall. The proposed bill would make dealers notify consumers if a car has one or more open recalls. Critics say the bill would allow dealers to sell potentially unsafe vehicles. They argue the bill should simply require used car dealers to fix any recalls -- something car dealers have long opposed. Another bill under consideration in Trenton would force dealers to fix recalls but it's stalled in committee.
The Eagles have won three straight after knocking off the Bengals in Cincinnati 37-17. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for one touchdown and ran for three others but says the offense still has room for improvement. "I don't think we're there yet. I think we're slowly finding it and trying to piece things together. Ultimately it comes down to cadence and rhythm and how we play and then optimizing all the talent that we have," Hurts says. The Eagles are now 5-2 and they'll host Jacksonville this Sunday afternoon.
