A man is facing charges after authorities say a child shot a woman in Northampton County. Police in Wilson Borough said a three-year-old shot the woman yesterday with a cocked and loaded gun left on a table by 41-year-old Brian Siegfried. According to officers, there were several young children around when Siegfried walked away from the gun. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
The First Lady will be in Lehigh County today. Doctor Jill Biden is expected to make an appearance in Allentown then take part in a discussion at Lehigh Carbon Community College. WFMZ-TV reports Biden will be joined at the Donley Center by Congresswoman Susan Wild and other lawmakers to discuss education and entering the workforce. Wild says the event will focus on the Hispanic community.
Six Flags Entertainment and Cedar Fair L.P. have completed their combination, and as of now no name change is proposed for Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. Or any park owned by the combined company: "Each park in the combined company's portfolio will retain their legacy branding with no changes to park names currently being planned or contemplated," according to a Six Flags statement. Dorney Park in South Whitehall Township was owned by Cedar Fair. The closest Six Flags-branded park is Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey.
Easton police are searching for a teenager that allegedly shot into a home. Authorities said the suspect fired multiple gunshots into an occupied house on South 12th Street yesterday afternoon. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but said the people inside the home are not cooperating with officers. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Easton P-D.
The state is not shutting down just because lawmakers, once again, missed their budget deadline. Lawmakers in Harrisburg were supposed to have a new state spending plan by Sunday, but they're still working on the final details. Top lawmakers say they hope to have something to vote on in the next couple of days, but they're not saying when that may be.
Teamsters Local Union No. 8, the union that represents technical service employees at Penn State University, has reached a tentative agreement that will raise wages, avoiding a strike. Members previously approved of a strike if negotiations with the university failed. According to a Facebook post, the agreement will last four years and will increase wages by 20% over the life of the contract.
The judge in the corruption trial of Senator Bob Menendez is criticizing lawyers for both sides for making the trial not just a soap opera -- but a bad soap opera at that. Judge Sidney Stein scolded the lawyers yesterday as the trial entered its eighth week. Yesterday, the trial almost came to a halt as lawyers squabbled over which details of the relationship between the senator and his wife -- Nadine -- that jurors would hear. Meanwhile, the senator's sister -- 80-year-old Caridad Gonzalez -- took the stand yesterday and said she was not surprised the senator stashed away money in his home -- as she put it -- because they were Cuban. Menendez's lawyers have said the money and gold were gifts to Nadine Menendez from generous friends.
