A three-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a random attack outside of an Ohio grocery store on Monday (June 3) afternoon. Authorities said that Margot Wood had just finished shopping and was leaving a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted with her son, Julian, around 3 p.m. when they were attacked by 32-year-old Bionca Ellis.
Ellis allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Wood and her son multiple times.
Wood and her son were rushed to the hospital. On Tuesday, officials announced that Julian had died. They said that Margot's injuries were not life-threatening, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
Officers found Ellis walking down the street not far from the scene, still holding the knife used in the attack. She was taken into custody without incident.
Ellis was charged with aggravated murder and jailed on a $1 million bond.
Ellis refused to speak to the police, and investigators have not determined a motive for the seemingly random attack.
"We are all terribly sorry for their loss and I ask everyone to keep them in thought and prayer. Our police department continues its on-going investigation of the crime as we attempt to begin healing and moving forward. I commend all our safety forces for their compassion and swift response in the wake of this situation," North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said in a statement.
