Proposal Would Put Lawmakers And PDE Secretary On PIAA Board

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Representative Robert Matzie is trying to pass legislation that would provide more oversight to the PIAA. If it goes his way, the state secretary of education would serve on the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association's board. Lawmakers who serve on the legislature's Athletic Oversight Commission also would serve on the PIAA board. The PIAA is struggling to find a way to fairly adjust for schools whose athletic teams have outperformed comparably-sized schools, even though they're in a lower class competition. That's the issue for Aliquippa Schools, whose district Matzie represents.
