House Committee to Vote on Islamic holiday

((Harrisburg, PA) -- The state House Government Committee will vote soon on House Bill 1752. It proposes to annually designate the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr Day [[[ eyed al fitter ]] in the Commonwealth. It would be observed on the first day of the Islamic lunar month of Shawwal [[ Shaw WAL ]], each year. Nothing in the proposal would require an employer to treat Eid al-Fitr Day as a legal or official holiday or to provide paid leave to an employee solely by virtue of the date being designated under this act. The measure was introduced by Carol Kazeem of Delaware County.
