The White House has tabbed Lehigh County as one of nine new counties in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program. The program helps law enforcement address regional drug issues. Lehigh County DA Jim Martin says, "I am very pleased and excited to have Lehigh County receive this designation. Participation will be a great benefit to law enforcement and to my office." Lehigh joins Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia as Pennsylvania counties with that designation.
Voters in Northampton County will be voting on term limits for elected officials in November. Last night, County Council overrode three vetoes by County Executive Lamon McClure, which means referendum questions about the county's constitution will be placed on the November 7th ballot. The vote will be to decide if the county executive, controller and councilmembers should be subject to term limits. If approved on the ballot, the referendum questions would limit the executive and controller to two consecutive terms and members of County Council to three terms.
Easton's city administrator is in critical condition after collapsing while jogging. Mayor Sal Panto says Luis Campos was jogging Wednesday night when he collapsed. First responders performed CPR on Campos and transported him to St. Luke's-Anderson, where he remains in the ICU.
A crash Friday morning closed all lanes of Route 33 North in Monroe County, snarling traffic on the Northampton County side. The crash was reported at about 9:15 a.m. on Route 33 North outside Saylorsburg. Traffic was eventually pushed back as far as Route 512. A little before noon, PennDOT said the crash scene was cleared.
Easton police are asking for help in finding a missing man. 35-year-old Jose Perez-Martinez was last seen last Saturday in Easton. Perez-Martinez is described as five-feet nine-inches tall weighing 240 pounds. Police say they are concerned about his well being and ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them.
