Getting on an airplane will require a different form of identification one year from today. "We're looking forward to that federal deadline of May 3, 2023 where everyone will have to have a REAL ID or passport to be able to fly," says PennDOT Acting Secretary Melissa Batula. She says you can get a REAL ID by presenting several different documents, including a Social Security card, in your current name. Proof of identity is needed, examples of which are an original or certified copy of a birth certificate with a raised seal or an unexpired U.S. passport. Two proofs of your current Pennsylvania address are required. That could be a utility bill, vehicle registration or current driver's license. If your name is different that what appears on your proof of identity, you'll need proof of the name change, such as a certified marriage certificate. For more info, go to www.dmv.pa.gov/REALID.
