The investigation continues into the deaths of five people found inside a Bucks County apartment. A mother and daughter are behind bars after confessing to being involved in the killings of the family members. Ronald Smith is the father of one of the victims and says while he saw his daughter earlier this month, she was being manipulated by her mother and would not step outside. "I came here on February 1st and I did a welness check and I did get to see my daughter, but she didn't want to come out," Smith says. The two suspects have said that all seven people inside that apartment, including nine-year-old twins, discussed suicide previously.
A Lehigh County man was arrested Wednesday morning after a domestic incident that began several hours earlier. 68-year-old Todd Miller is facing charges after Salisbury Township police were called to Miller's home on South 24th Street just after midnight Wednesday. Officers said Miller pulled a handgun on his wife and threatened to kill her, then assaulted her and took off. Allentown and Salisbury Township officers surrounded the Todd Miller Law Offices building early Wednesday morning. Officers spent several hours yelling at the building for Miller to come outside. He was eventually taken into custody and is being held in Lehigh County Jail on $50,000 bail.
State police are investigating after vandals wrote upsetting messages and symbols on a Poconos church. Words described as obscene and satanic were found painted yesterday at several places on the St. John's Lutheran Church near Effort.
The owner of Bieber Tourways is facing a $1000 fine for operating the company without a license. A judge found Steve Haddad guilty during a summary trial in Fleetwood, with state officials saying Haddad owed $325,000 in back taxes. They say his failure to pay resulted in the state revoking his business license. Haddad was not present for the hearing. Bieber went out of business on February 8th.
The state is reporting that the total of flu-related deaths in Pennsylvania has increased by ten in only a week. The confirmed fatality count in Pennsylvania due to the flu has risen from 47 to 57, with 37 of those victims 65 or older.
Elk in Pennsylvania may be in danger of being infected by deer suffering from a fatal disease. Game Commission officials are saying a deer that has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease was found located close to the range of elk native to northeastern portions of the state. Chronic Wasting Disease can result in severe weight loss, lethargy and several neurological symptoms and can be transmitted through animal-to-animal contact.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission are both asking for the ability to control the prices of licenses. At their annual hearing before the House Game and Fisheries Committee, their executive directors both expressed the need to increase those fees. The Game Commission hasn't increased its license fee since 1999 while the Fish and Boat Commission's fee has been flat since 2005.
Philadelphia Eagles Vice President Howie Roseman has made a decision on quarterback Nick Foles' future. "We've spent a lot of time discussing this internally and with him and we've decided to let Nick become a free agent," Roseman says. He says the decision was difficult but he says Foles deserves an opportunity to lead a team on a full-time basis, something he would not be able to do in Philadelphia with Carson Wentz established as the starter.
