One person is dead and another badly injured after an early Sunday morning crash in Bethlehem. Bethlehem Township Police say when they arrived on the scene around 2:30 Sunday morning at Freemansburg Avenue and 7th Street, they found one driver dead and another driver with serious injuries. Police say the driver of a blue Volkswagen Passat was found deceased at the scene. The second driver, who is identified as a 24-year-old male from Nazareth, was transported to a local hospital. The crash will remain under investigation.
A local mayor has passed away. Coplay Mayor Steven Burker died Saturday afternoon at his home. The 74-year-old Burker became Coplay's mayor in January 2022 and had previously served on Coplay Borough Council for two terms. Burker also served as the co-chair of the Coplay Community Days committee.
Crews in Carbon County spent their weekend battling a fire in Franklin Township. Firefighters say a wildfire broke out on Saturday, near Long Run Road in Lehigton. Crews fought the fire all day Saturday, then returned yesterday to put out some hot spots. There's no word on just how that fire started. There are also no reports of any injuries because of the fire.
The Camelback Resort is nominated as one of the best winter resorts in America. The USA Today is asking readers to pick from a list of resorts across the country. Camelback is on the list as a candidate for the Best Place for Snow Tubing. You can cast your ballot at the USDA Today's website. Voting is now open. The paper says it will announce the winners on November 20th.
Today is day one of a five day bus trip across Pennsylvania for former President Donald Trump's campaign. According to his campaign, Trump's surrogates' bus trip will include two stops in the Lehigh Valley today. The first is at Valley Family Restaurant on Easton Avenue in Bethlehem at 12:45 this afternoon. The second local stop is at 2:45 at the Fearless Fire Company on South Front Street in Allentown. Among those expected to push for the former president locally include former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin; former assistant secretary of the treasury Monica Crowley; and Hogan Gidley, former White House deputy press secretary. Trump, himself, will be in North Carolina today. Other Trump bus tour stops this week include Wilkes-Barre, State College, Erie, Carlisle and Hershey.
Today marks the last day to register for next month's election in Pennsylvania. People that are unsure if they're registered or are not can check online. Pennsylvania voters will also have just over a week to request a mail-in ballot. Election Day will be held on November 5th.
Speaking to reporters through a McDonald's drive-thru window in Pennsylvania, Former President Donald Trump said that his temporary shift at the restaurant still lasted longer than Vice President Kamala Harris' alleged McDonald's career. "Now I have worked 15 minutes more than Kamala. She never worked here. I've worked at McDonald's," the ex-president said. Following Trump's shift at the suburban Philadelphia golden arches, he headed west for a town hall in Lancaster.
Billionaire Elon Musk announced a million-dollar-a-day giveaway in Harrisburg over the weekend. During a rally Saturday in support of former president Donald Trump, Musk said he'll give a million dollars a day between now and Election Day to someone who signs his petition supporting the U.S. Constitution. The petition specifies support for only the First and Second Amendments. Musk then presented a million-dollar check Saturday to an attendee at the rally, a man from Mechanicsburg.
Gov. Josh Shapiro tells NBC's "Meet the Press" he's not all that enthused with Elon Musk's million-dollar-a-day giveaway to people who sign his petition supporting the First and Second amendments. "Musk, obviously, has the right to express his views. He's made it very clear that he supports Donald Trump. I have a different opinion, but I don't deny him that right. But when you start throwing this kind of money into politics, it raises serious questions that folks may want to take a look at," Shapiro said. Legal experts say Musk is not necessarily violating any laws, since the money is being awarded for simply signing a petition rather than an official form or official act like voting.
GIANT is issuing a recall of its frozen waffles. The company says several kinds of GIANT and MARTIN's brand frozen waffles are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination. The waffles involved in the recall include homestyle, buttermilk, blueberry, and chocolate chip. Customers that need to throw their waffles out can contact GIANT customer service for a refund.
In his return to the Meadowlands, former Whitehall High School, Penn State and New York Giants star Saquon Barkley had a huge day for his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley had 187 total yards and a touchdown in the Eagles 28-3 win. After the win, Barkley said he has no ill will towards the Giants. "I'm thankful for the organization that drafted me. I still have nothing but love and respect for all the guys over there, but I'm happy to be an Eagle and most importantly we got a win today in the division," Barkley said. The Eagles are now 4-2. They visit Cincinnati this coming Sunday.
