The summer of 2024 was a record-setter at Lehigh Valley International Airport. LVIA says more than 96,000 passengers came through the airport in August, pushing the June-August number beyond 297,000 passengers. American Airlines saw its LVIA traffic jump by nearly 40 percent in August.

The Allentown City Council is approving a trash service contract that was rejected two-weeks-ago. The Council voted 4-3 last night in favor of a contract that will increase trash fees in the city by more than three-hundred-dollars over the next two years. The Council initially turned down the contract due to the price increases, but changed course after being informed the city would not have any other options for trash service. Because of the higher cost, Mayor Matt Tuerk said there will not be any recommendations for a tax increase in next year's budget.

For the second time in as many days a motorcycle vs. deer accident has left a man dead. 57-year-old Donald Guldin, of Lower Macungie Township, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a deer in the 3000 block of Route 100 near Windy Road in Lowhill Township just before 5:30 Wednesday morning. Tuesday morning, a 64-year-old Germansville man died when his motorcycle hit a deer in Washington Township.

An Easton man could spend up to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of stabbing a man last year in Easton. 44-year-old Christopher Burd was found guilty of stabbing a man near the bus stop along South Third Street back on Sept. 9, 2023. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure says county property owners will see property taxes stay flat next year. McClure's proposed $502 million budget keeps the county tax rate at 10.8 mills. Northampton County's property tax rate has not increased since 2015.

Wednesday, voters in Northampton County began casting ballots for the November 5th election. The Northampton County Elections Office says ballot-on-demand voting is available weekdays from 8:30am-8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am-2:00pm at the county government center on Washington Street in Easton. To vote in this fashion, eligible voters fill out an on-demand ballot application there and then they can either fill it out in the election office and return it on the spot or take it home to fill out and then either mail it in or return the ballot to one of the county's seven drop boxes which are being installed today. Election officials say registered voters who have already applied for a mail-in ballot are not eligible for on-demand ballots.

Democrat vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz was in York Wednesday, where he criticizes Republican vice presidential nominee, J.D. Vance's performance at the vice presidential debate Tuesday night. "I was speaking to the American people Tuesday night. It felt, especially in that moment, to me, that Senator Vance was speaking to an audience of one," Walz told supporters.

Democrat vice Presidential nominee, Tim Walz hit the campaign trail in Pennsylvania Wednesday. He was joined by Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman, who took a swing at Ohio Senator and Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance after noting that they work together in the Senate. "You might ask if he's really that weird. I'm here to say that I can confirm that," Fetterman told the crowd in York, one of three Pennsylvania stops made by Walz on Wednesday.

Donald Trump's presidential campaign says that vice-presidential nominee JD Vance will be joining the former president for a rally Saturday in Butler County. Vance is fresh off of his Tuesday night participation in a vice-presidential debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The Saturday rally will be held at the Butler Farm Show Grounds where Trump was shot in an assassination attempt back in July. One person was killed and two others were injured in that incident.

The first debate between the candidates for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania is set for tonight in Harrisburg. Incumbent U.S. Senator Bob Casey and Republican Dave McCormick are locked in a tight race. A second debate is scheduled for October 15. The debate will be televised on CW in Philadelphia.

A gathering on the steps of the state Capitol honored those killed by domestic violence in Pennsylvania and those who've survived it. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence released a new report showing 119 men and women lost their lives in 2023 to domestic violence in Pennsylvania, a 14% increase from the previous year. Policy Director Deanna Dyer says often times housing concerns keep people in abusive situations. "Right now, victims throughout the commonwealth are trapped in leases and unable to flee unsafe housing situations. A lot of other states has those protections in place, so Pennsylvania is really behind the curve on allowing victims to be able to legally terminate a lease without harsh financial penalties if their life depends on it," Dyer says.

Officials with the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania say they are in urgent need of volunteers. The organization currently has over 30 people from the state helping survivors of Hurricane Helene. They are now looking for additional individuals who are willing to respond to natural disasters, lend a hand during blood drives, and more.
