We still don't know all the details about Minnesota Gov. and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz's Lehigh Valley visit this weekend. We're told Walz will fly into Lehigh Valley International Airport late Saturday morning and will hold a rally somewhere in downtown Allentown later that day.
Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance will be making a campaign stop in Berks County this weekend. The Trump/Vance campaign says Vance will rally supporters Saturday at the Berks County Fairgrounds in Bern Township. Vance is scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m.
The Lehigh County controller is suing former county commissioner Dean Browning for defamation, claiming the Republican led a campaign seeking to discredit the Democrat during his reelection campaign. Mark Pinsley originally sued the Republican Committee last November claiming it sent out a pamphlet which claimed he supports the group Hamas and that he wants to defund local police departments, which Pinsley denied.
Hundreds of Bucks County government employees are expected to be missing from their jobs Friday morning. Three hundred union members are set to strike after almost a year without a contract. For 500 Bucks County employees, it's been more than a year of negotiations, with the final offer back in June. Those employees have now been without any contract the last nine months. About 200 additional workers are also without contracts, but aren't legally eligible to strike. Those include 911 workers. The county says it's prepared to make sure services continue without delay.
One person had to be rescued after a vehicle caught fire in Lehigh County yesterday. Authorities say a vehicle went up in flames on I-78 East near Summit Lawn shortly before 9 a.m. First responders reportedly had to remove someone from the vehicle, but they did not appear to be injured. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
Penn State University will pay $703,742 in back wages and interest to dozens of female employees who alleged they were paid less than their male counterparts, the U.S. Department of Labor has announced. A compliance review conducted by the department found that since 2020, Penn State paid 65 women less than men holding similar jobs in facilities, extension education and senior administration; a handful of female faculty were also affected, according to the settlement. Individual payouts to the impacted women range from $2,432 to $47,241. As part of the settlement, Penn State also agreed to work to ensure that its compensation and pay practices are free from discrimination. Penn State did not admit to any violations in the settlement.
Former president Donald Trump will no longer visit the Our Lady of Czestochowa shrine in Bucks County. The Trump campaign has announced the planned trip on Sunday has been canceled, but no other details were given. Trump was expected to attend the unveiling of a monument at the Polish-American shrine near Doylestown. He is still scheduled to be in Pennsylvania on Monday.
