One person was injured in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning. It happened on Route 22 Westbound just past 15th Street in South Whitehall. State Police Bethlehem say the call for the motorcycle crash came in just before 12:45 a.m. One person was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. No word on the extent of injuries or what caused the crash. Route 22 in the area was closed until around 5am.
One person is in the hospital following a shooting in Bethlehem over the weekend. Police say a man was shot early Sunday morning on the 1300 block of Fritz Drive. He is in critical condition. An investigation is underway.
Nobody was injured after a large house fire in Salisbury Township on Saturday. Officials say the two-alarm blaze on the one-thousand block of Hawthown Road caused flames to shoot through the roof. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
A man was shot and killed near the Pennsylvania State Capitol yesterday. Harrisburg police say the shooting happened on the 200 block of State Street at around 5:30 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is underway.
The Tree of Life congregation is taking another step forward in healing after 2018's tragic anti-Semitic attack. Members of the synagogue were joined by officials and Pittsburgh community members for a groundbreaking ceremony at their Squirrel Hill property yesterday. The now-demolished synagogue is being replaced by a new sanctuary, an education center, and a museum that will focus on the history of antisemitism in the U.S. Governor Josh Shapiro was in attendance yesterday, telling the crowd that everyone shares the responsibility of passing on stories of the eleven people who were killed at the site and of the resilience the congregation has displayed since.
After weeks of testimony from government witnesses, lawyers for Senator Bob Menendez this week are expected to start refuting the corruption charges he faces. Federal prosecutors are expected to wrap up their case against the Democratic lawmaker by Wednesday. Then, the senator's lawyers will have their time in court. They've said they may call as many as four dozen witnesses. The trial is entering its seventh week.
Joe Kovacs is headed to his third Olympics after qualifying Saturday night at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials. The Lehigh Valley native and Bethlehem Catholic graduate finished second in shot put at the trials in Eugene, Oregon, to two-time gold medalist Ryan Crouser. Kovacs was the runner-up to Crouser in both Olympics in 2016 and 2020. The 2024 Olympics are being held July 26 through Aug. 11 in Paris. The shot put competition will be Aug. 2 with the qualification round and the finals will be Aug. 3.
