A boy suffered a graze wound to the head in a Thursday shooting in Allentown. It happened around 3:30 near North Nagle and Allen streets. Jeani Garcia is with Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley and says people need to nip potential incidents like this one in the bud. "Why aren't you contacting outside and working with organizations and say summer is coming in two weeks we need to get ahead of this and I'm nervous. I'm afraid somebody's going to get hurt," Garcia says. The boy’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to contact Allentown police at 610-437-7721.
Residents in Emmaus are told to leave a bear alone that was spotted roaming the borough Thursday. Police say the bear was spotted just before 3 o'clock Thursday morning and at one point, strolled through Triangle Park, right in the middle of the borough. Emmaus police said the bear has an ear tag, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission has been notified.
After it was announced Nazareth's annual Kazoo Parade would not take place this year, now there's word the Independence Day tradition 'will' happen after all. Nazareth's mayor says a "Kazoo Parade Only" event will happen on July 4th beginning at 10am. It will start at the Nazareth High School parking lot and proceed down Center Street, around The Circle, and before ending at Council Chambers. Organizers hope to have the traditional musical and patriotic portion of the parade back in 2025.
The Pennsylvania State Police are not saying what caused yesterday's crash that shutdown I-80 near the Delaware Water Gap. Troopers say a number of cars crashed on the interstate, and that closed I-80 east between the Water Gap and the New Jersey state line. The crash happened Thursday morning, and kept the interstate closed til about 1 p.m.
About 21% of those eligible for a buyout offered by Penn State University decided to take it. That figures to more than 380 employees, or about 10% of the overall staff at Penn State's 20 campuses. The salaries and benefits of those 380+ employees figures out to about $43 million coming off Penn State's books. The buyout offer expired May 31 and offered one year of salary in a lump sum and six months of health insurance at the current rate. About half of those who took buyouts will be leaving by the end of June, with the rest departing some time later in the year.
A pageant contestant says she dropped out of Miss Pennsylvania due to ongoing threats. Robyn Kass-Gerji says another competitor has bullied her and sent her death threats for months. Kass-Gerji says the threats included killing her, her mother, her boyfriend and her pets. She said she decided to step down as Miss Susquehanna Valley after not receiving specifics about security at the pageant. Pageant officials dispute that claim, stating that they were aware of the issue and had plans to keep the two separated. No charges have been filed.
The Trump for President campaign has opened up a "Latino Americans for Trump" office in Reading, whose population is two-thirds Latino. Last week, the Trump campaign set up its first Pennsylvania office at a site in northeast Philadelphia at an event called "Blacks for Trump."
A Philadelphia broadcasting legend is getting his profession's highest honor. Merrill Reese has been the play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Eagles since 1977 and Thursday he got word the Pro Football Hall of Fame has named him this year's recipient of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Reese will be honored during the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week in early August.
