The Lehigh County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man killed during a shooting over the weekend at Fountain Park in Allentown. The victim is identified as 25-year-old Angel Martinez-Velez, of Allentown. He was shot just before 6:30 Saturday evening and died from his wounds less than an hour later.
A 19-year-old Lehigh Township man died Sunday from his injuries after a motorcycle crash the night before in Northampton County. Eliam Buchanan-Ramos was riding a motorcycle that hit another vehicle about 8:30 Saturday night in the 100 block of Riverview Drive, AKA Route 145, in Lehigh Township. Buchanan-Ramos was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, where he died from his injuries Sunday afternoon. Lehigh Township police are investigating the crash.
In a 6-1 vote Monday night, Hellertown Borough Council granted preliminary approval for a proposed convenience store. The proposal calls for a Sheetz at the intersection of Kichline Ave. and Main St.
Both people involved in an apparent road rage case in Lancaster County are now dead. The victim of that shooting died at Reading Hospital on Monday, and the shooter killed himself. This driver says it's a sad sign of the times. "It's really sad the aggression that has built up in our society today," the woman says. The shooting happened just after 1 Friday afternoon, in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, between the Reading and Morgantown exits, close to the Berks County line. A 40-year-old Royersford man was shot in the head and died yesterday. The man who shot him was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot Saturday inside his tractor-trailer parked in a nearby parking lot.
Former Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins returned to Philadelphia Monday night for the first time since signing with Milwaukee in the offseason. Hoskins homered in the game and said it may have been the strangest home run he's ever hit. "It was different. Normally you go into a visiting ballpark and you hit a home run and you don't hear any cheers. So the mix of boos and cheers was different. It was fun," Hoskins said. Hoskins got a standing ovation prior to his first at bat. He hit 148 home runs in 667 games as a Phillie.
