A World War II-era bomber plane returns to Lehigh Valley International Airport for three public flights this week. The B-29 Doc, arrives at LVIA today after its appearance at the Dover Air Force Base Show. Two flights are scheduled for today, one at 5 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m. A third flight is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday. Ticket prices range from $600 to $1,500 for a seat on one of the flights. The same plane was just at LVIA from May 9-12. Tours of the cockpit were available during that visit, but will not be available this week.
A motorcycle carrying two people hit a deer Sunday on Rolling Hills Road in Ross Township. Officials say two victims were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.
Pennsylvania lawmakers are pushing a plan that would protect small, independent pharmacies. The new proposal would create a pathway for pharmacists to file complaints against the pharmacy benefit managers who, critics say, have an outsized influence on the pharmacy marketplace. The legislation would also require more transparency on prices, discounts, and the like. State Rep. Jessica Benham says the PBMs have squeezed smaller, independent pharmacists and if small pharmacies completely close, many smaller communities across Pennsylvania won't have any local drug stores to turn to.
Tree of Life synagogue shooter Robert Bowers is not getting a new trial. A federal judge denied a request from defense attorneys to hold new hearings. Bowers' lawyers argued that prosecutors did not prove his actions were intended to interfere with the religious freedom rights of victims. In his rejection of the motion, Judge Robert Colville said evidence shows Bowers was motivated to carry out the attack because the victims were Jewish. Last year, Bowers was convicted of murdering eleven people at the Tree of Life synagogue in 2018. He has been sentenced to death.
Today, the prosecution continues to make its case in a Manhattan courtroom in the corruption trial of New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez. Prosecutors are attempting to show how Menendez allegedly used his position as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to help a New Jersey businessman win a monopoly business deal in Egypt. The FBI said a search of the senator's home turned up thousands of dollars in cash as well as gold bars. Menendez's attorney said the gold bars were in his wife's locked closet and that he did not have a key. His wife, Nadine, goes on trial later this summer. She is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
State lawmakers are considering a bill to require background checks for certain New Jersey healthcare professionals. It expands a background check requirement for people seeking a license from state agencies such as the State Board of Dietetics and Nutrition and the state Board of Applied Behavior Analyst Examiners. Under the proposed bill, a professional's license can be revoked based on criminal history.
The Phillies are 34-14 after beating Washington 11-5 Sunday afternoon. Third baseman Alec Bohm says all 26 players have contributed to earning the major league's best record. "The starters have been, all season long, the best in the league. And then the bullpen comes in and picks them up when they need to. And then with our offense, it's any given guy on any given night," Bohm says. The Phillies are off today and host the World Series champ Texas Rangers tomorrow night.
