Allentown Police are investigating a shooting that happened late Thursday night in the 300 block of Hamilton Street. The shooting was reported just before 11 o'clock Thursday night. Police say the victim is expected to survive and that there is no danger to the public.
We're being told the driver of a car involved in a single-vehicle crash in Northampton County was injured in the accident. The crash happened just before 4 o'clock Friday morning on Five Points Richmond Road in Upper Mount Bethel Township. The crash took down a utility pole and caused a widespread power outage, forcing all schools and buildings in the Bangor Area School District to close for the day Friday. Police say the driver was a 34-year-old Phillipsburg man. There's no word yet on why he left the road and struck the poll.
An increase in tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike goes into effect this weekend. The five percent increase was approved by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission last July, which raises prices by ten-cents for E-ZPass customers and 30-cents for toll by plate customers. The increase goes into effect on Sunday.
Pennsylvania Revenue Secretary Pat Browne says December's General Fund revenue totaled $3.7 billion, which was $69.6 million, or 1.8 percent below what had been anticipated. Fiscal year-to-date collections now stand at $19.8 billion, which is $70.7 million, or .4 percent below estimates.
The Philadelphia Eagles will look to end the season on a strong note when they visit the NFC East rival New York Giants on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The Eagles have lost four of their last five games entering the regular season finale. They have already clinched a playoff berth, but enter the final week sitting behind Dallas for the division lead at 11-and-5. The Giants are third in the division at 5-and-11 and enter the matchup looking to snap a three-game losing skid. Giants running back and Whitehall High School graduate Saquon Barkley says he's not dwelling on the possibility that Sunday could be his final game with New York. "A lot of that is out of my control. So, for me I just try to keep the main thing the main thing and the biggest thing is locking in with your team going into next year, cherish the moments and try to go out on a high note," Barkley says.
