Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says snow is almost certainly coming on Saturday afternoon. How much you get, all depends on where you're at. "I-78 and on south, I think there's going to be rain. Areas to the north, that rain-snow line is going to be barely north of us and where there's going to be only snow, there could easily be more than six inches out of this," Lundberg says. Lundberg's official snow forecast is for three-to-six inches in the immediate Lehigh Valley, but the three more likely than the six at this point.
What was a small house fire Wednesday afternoon ended up with the Allentown Bomb Squad being called to the scene. That happened after the owners of a Salisbury Township home told firefighters black powder, fireworks and chemicals may have been inside the home. Mickey Brown lives in the neighborhood and says he had concerns about that residence for a while. "I'm uncomfortable with it There's no doubt about that. Who knows what's been going on over there? It's been a house of concern for a while," Brown says. One firefighter was injured and treated at the scene. The fire is currently under investigation.
A dinner theatre is set to move after 14 years of operation at its Allentown location. Pines Dinner Theatre, on N. 17th St., is moving to a yet-to-be-announced location, where the business is expected to resume operations in late spring. The business' website says, “At this point we are anticipating opening on June 1, 2024 at our new location." The owners say the move was prompted by the dinner theatre’s lease not being renewed.
Slate Belt police are warning residents to lock their homes and vehicles after receiving several reports of incidents in Pen Argyl. The incidents involved burglaries and attempted car break-ins from late November to early last month. The incidents happened in the 700 block of West Pennsylvania Avenue; 600 block of East Mountain Avenue; first block of East Plainfield Avenue; and first block of Davey Avenue. Police are urging everyone in Pen Argyl, Wind Gap and Plainfield Township to make sure surveillance cameras are working and to keep windows and doors locked. It’s unclear if police believe the same suspect is involved in all the incidents.
Medical officials in Monroe County are warning about a whooping cough outbreak. More and more kids in the Stroudsburg Area School District are coming down with whooping cough, which started just before Christmas break. Saint Luke's University Health Network says they've treated almost 40 kids for whooping cough already and it's only a matter of time before it spreads to other school districts in the Lehigh Valley. Symptoms can mimic the common cold, with forceful coughing lasting up to six weeks and the disease hanging on for up to three months.
Forecasters say you can expect to see an "above average" meteor shower in our region through Friday morning. The event, known as "The Quadrantids" meteor shower, will display up to 40 meteors per hour at its peak. It's thought to have been produced by dust grains left from an extinct comet discovered 20 years ago.
Six Philadelphia Eagles are on the Pro Games roster. The National Football League announced their selections Wednesday night. Running back D'Andre Swift, wide receiver A.J. Brown, left guard Landon Dickerson, center Jason Kelce, right tackle Lane Johnson, and outside linebacker Haason Reddick will be playing for the Eagles in the Pro Bowl games that are set for February 4th in Orlando. Nine alternates were also selected. The players were chosen from votes by fans, players, and coaches.
