The Republicans who want to unseat incumbent Lehigh Valley Congresswoman Susan Wild have a lot of catching up to do on the fundraising side of things. While Wild has already raised more than $1.5 million this election cycle, the three Republican candidates combined have only raised about $300,000 so far. St. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie leads the GOP pack, having raised around $135,000 since launching his campaign in July. Attorney Maria Montero announced her candidacy in August and since then has raised nearly $92,000. Businessman and veteran Kevin Dellicker has pulled in about $66,000 to date.
Craig Vanlouvender, with the Monroe County DA's office, says an interview eight years ago has finally led to the discovery of the remains of Stephen Lepore, who had disappeared in August 2012. "In 2015, those statements were given with a grant of immunity. At that point, we had no idea where Mr. Lapore was or what happened to him. So, since that time, he claims not to have known where the remains were placed. It was only recently this week we discovered where to search," Vanlouvender says. Lepore's remains were found on a property in Wayne County. Officials say he was shot in the head. No arrests have been made, but investigators say charges are pending.
Pennsylvania's September unemployment rate was the lowest since records began being kept in January 1976. The state Department of Labor & Industry says the jobless figure was 3.4% last month, down one-tenth of a percentage point from August and nearly a full percentage point below where it stood in September 2022.
Walmart is planning to offer discounted prices on Thanksgiving dinners this year. The retail giant says they are "removing inflation" by selling a packaged set of meal staples for less than they went for last year. Company officials have released limited details on the promotion, but, they have said there will be an option for ready-to-bake dinners and another for those who like to cook from scratch. The deal is being launched on November first and the packages will be available to order online and pick up in-store.
