The U.S. Department of Labor and B. Braun Medical Inc. have struck a deal to resolve allegations that the company failed to address discrimination against female employees. The Labor Department says in 2017, B. Braun pushed female applicants into lower-paying positions at its Hanover Township, Lehigh County, location. The company denied the allegations. B. Braun has agreed to pay $75,984 in back pay and interest to 24 qualified female applicants who were not selected during the monitoring period. It will also collaborate with the department’s employment and training administration’s office of apprenticeship to help female employees in getting the certifications and necessary training to fill warehouse associate roles, the release states.
Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity says the state is investing an additional $20 million in Israel bonds. She said in a statement yesterday that it's an especially important time to show support to the country. The Pennsylvania Treasury Department currently has nearly $36 million worth of Israel bonds. The new investment will bring the total investment to about $56 million. Garrity says the Commonwealth has invested in Israel bonds for more than 30 years.
More than 450 used state vehicles will be available for public purchase at an auction next week. The state Department of General Services' Bureau of Vehicle Management is hosting the event that's open to the public Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Grantville. The auction features many vehicles that have been seized by law enforcement as well as several police cars and SUVs. Mandatory pre-registration and in-person previews of the vehicles happens Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Grantville auction site.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is on his way to Japan for a nine-day economic mission. Japan is the first stop for Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy and then it's off to South Korea. "Job creation in New Jersey and investment in New Jersey are the top two priorities," Murphy says. It's all part of the East Asia Economic Mission Trip with Choose NJ.
