Investigators are looking into what started a fire that killed a 64-year-old man in Williams Township. The fire began just before 8:30 Monday morning in a home on the 1500 block of Raubsville Road. Despite taking firefighters only 30 minutes to extinguish, an unidentified male victim was found dead inside the home.
Police in Allentown say two people were shot around 9:30 Sunday night in the area of North Hazel and Chew streets. When police arrived on the scene, they found one gunshot victim, who was taken to the hospital. A short while later, a second gunshot victim arrived at the hospital. Both are expected to survive.
An Allentown woman is charged with slashing someone in the city around 6 o'clock Sunday evening. 26-year-old Ariana Rosa allegedly used a knife during an altercation in the 400 block of Union Boulevard. Her alleged victim showed up at a nearby hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist killed in a weekend crash in Allentown. 20-year-old Justin Vazquez-Sotomayor, of Allentown, was killed in the crash that happened just before 1:30 Saturday afternoon in the intersection of West Greenleaf and Ott streets. Investigators say he collided with a SUV in the intersection. The investigation is continuing.
After falling short of the Republican nomination in the 2022 Lehigh Valley congressional race, Kevin Dellicker says he's giving it another shot next year. Dellicker says he's running once again for the 7th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Susan Wild. In a campaign release, Dellicker says he's running to "protect the Republican majority, get the job done and then return home." He's the second Republican candidate in the race at this point. Maria Montero has filed paperwork to run as a Republican in 2024.
A bridge in Lehigh County that sees more than 10,000 vehicles every day will be closed until late August. PennDOT says the Race Street Bridge over the Lehigh River, between Lehigh Avenue in Whitehall Township and Lehigh Street in Catasauqua, is closed for repair work that will be finished by Aug. 28. Removing the existing bridge deck and sidewalk, bridge beam repairs, replacing the bridge deck and sidewalk, paving of the bridge approaches, and new signage/pavement markings are all part of the project.
Following Gov. Josh Shapiro's announcement he was striking private school vouchers from his own budget, budget negotiations have hit a brick wall and Republican St. Sen. Jarrett Coleman says it may remain that way. "Now, we're just looking at this and saying that's amazing that the first six months into his term and you start lying not only to Pennsylvanians, but also to the Republican caucus. It's something that really impacts the future of negotiations," Coleman says. He says going back on a handshake deal will make future negotiations even more difficult than they already were.
New Jersey is capping out of pocket costs for several lifesaving prescription drugs. Governor Murphy says the price of insulin will be capped at 35 dollars, Epi pens at 25-dollars, and inhalers at 50-dollars. The caps apply to anyone on a state regulated health plan or public employees. The governor signed three laws aimed at regulating the pharmaceutical industry, with one measure focused on transparency requiring companies to report when medication prices increase.
