A man who expressed hated of Jews was convicted Friday of barging into a Pittsburgh synagogue and shooting everyone he could find, killing 11 congregants in an act of anti-Semitic terror. The guilty verdict was expected after Robert Bowers’ own lawyers conceded at the trial’s outset that he attacked and killed worshippers at the Tree of Life synagogue on Oct. 27, 2018, in the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history. Jurors must now decide whether the 50-year-old should be sent to death row or sentenced to life in prison without parole as the federal trial shifts to a penalty phase expected to last several weeks.
The City of Allentown is in the midst of its Juneteenth celebration, an observance of the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Texas to take control of the estate at the end of the Civil War and ensure all slaves be set free. This weekend's events include a basketball tournament, food vendors, live performances and Saturday night fireworks.
Pennsylvania's May unemployment rate dipped one-tenth of a percentage point from April to 4-percent. That is the lowest rate since records began being kept in January 1976. The Commonwealth's unmeployment rate was three-tenths of a point below its May 2022 number.

They say scammers are imitating the Pennsylvania Treasury Department with sophisticated phishing emails targeting Pennsylvanians. "If you have doubts about an email claiming to be from the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, here’s the most important tip: Do not click any links, and do not share any personal information. And always remember: Treasury will never seek personal information through an unsolicited email,” said Treasure Stacy Garrity.
The world's tallest roller coaster remains closed in New Jersey. Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, has been closed for more than 10 a week-and-a-half after a malfunction earlier this month that is still under investigation by New Jersey officials. The ride has been shut down since June 5, when a mechanical failure of a component of the launch system took place.
