A man facing charges in an April shooting in Easton is under arrest. 20-year-old Oscar Delgado was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Allentown and Easton police Thursday morning. Delgado was wanted in connection with an April 17 shooting at South Sixth and Ferry streets. Two houses and three vehicles were hit by bullets, but no injuries were reported in the incident. Delgado is facing four counts of aggravated assault; two counts of recklessly endangering another person and making terroristic threats; and single counts of weapons violations.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has announced the dozen educators nominated for the 2024 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. Among those 12 is Benjamin Hoffman, a teacher in the Kutztown Area School District. Pennsylvania's Teacher of the Year will be announced this coming December.
Sen. John Fetterman has issued a statement with some choice words for Norfolk Southern regarding this week's derailment in New Castle. Sen. Fetterman described the derailment as "same **expletive** different day" for the railroad company and is demanding for Norfolk Southern to be held accountable. Fetterman says "It's time to hold Norfolk Southern and the big rail companies accountable for the harm they've caused in East Palestine and Darlington Township and the harm they continue to cause with this dangerous, reckless behavior." Nobody was hurt and there were no toxic chemicals released into the air in New Castle. Lawmakers are considering a measure called the Railway Safety Act which backers say will add new rail safety procedures.
The Pennsylvania State Police say 49 cadets have graduated from the State Police Academy in Hershey. The class was the 166th to graduate from the academy in Hershey since its opening in 1960. None of the new cadets have been assigned to Lehigh Valley state police barracks.
The Philadelphia Flyers introduced their new general manager Danny Briere Friday, who says it's time to return the Flyers to excellence. "I consider it my highest duty to rebuild and restore this team to winning ways for years to come," Briere says. Also introduced was new team president and ex-broadcaster Keith Jones, who recalled arriving in Philadelphia 25 years ago after being traded to the Flyers and thinking how lucky he was to be a Flyer. "We are going to get back to that. It got away from us. We are off to a very good start, based on what happened last year," Jones says.
