Allentown's Miller Symphony Hall has received $500,000 in state funding for the symphony association and symphony hall. Officials say the money will be used for orchestra and education programming at Symphony Hall.
Luzerne County's election results remain in limbo after a Monday night meeting. Two Republican election officials voted not to certify this month's results, while two Democrat election officials voted 'to' certify those numbers. One official abstained. The board heard from residents, some who favored certifying the results. "I have confidence that you have fulfilled your duties to canvass and compute the ballots and now urge you to complete your final statutory obligation and certify the election results," one woman said. Another speaker said the results should not be certified. "I don't see how you could possibly certify this, just on what's been said already, without a thorough investigation, because this was a fiasco," the man said. The November 8 election had its issues in Luzerne County. Supplies ran short in a number of polling places, delaying some from voting, prompting a judge to keep the polls open an extra two hours that night. The issue could be resolved as soon as tomorrow night when another vote is scheduled. The official who abstained, has now reportedly decided to vote in favor of certifying the results.
Pennsylvania now has its own Freedom Caucus. Nearly two dozen Republican state lawmakers have joined the caucus. York Co. St. Rep. Dawn Keefer says, "Members of the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus stand united to protect personal freedom, the right to pursue economic aspirations without undue government influence and the right to live and raise a family without Big Brother of government usurping individual liberties." Caucus members hold conservative views and most are supporters of former President Trump.
Gov. Tom Wolf says a new state-wide plan will provide broadband internet availability across the commonwealth. The governor says the move is part of the newly-created Broadband Development Authority's plans to address both immediate and long-term needs. He says there are more than a million-and-a-half households in the state that don't have a computer and or a smartphone. The plan will provide more infrastructure to support internet access and availability, as well as device and technology access and technical support.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is recalling a store-brand of Weis Markets' ice cream. The agency says the voluntary recall covers 48-ounce containers of Weis' Sea Salt Caramel Ripple or Caramel Caribou Flavor. The product could potentially contain undeclared soy and coconut allergens. Though the FDA says no illnesses have been reported so far, the product could be deadly to people who have allergies to those ingredients.
