Lehigh Valley Health Network's annual drive-thru flu vaccination clinics are this weekend. The clinics are Saturday in the parking lot of Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom and Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hecktown Oaks in Lower Nazareth Township. Both will be held from 9am to 3pm. Shots are available for everybody six months and older. Appointments are not accepted, but everybody who comes for a shot is asked to bring a completed consent form, which can be found at www.lvhn.oogr/flushot.
The 11th annual PA Bacon Fest is this weekend in Easton and that's not only good news for bacon lovers, but also for drivers. All three travel lanes on the Easton-Phillipsburg free bridge are expected be open for the festival, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. Traffic on the bridge has been limited to one lane in each direction, but the 18-month project no longer requires that at this point. PA Bacon Fest is expecte to bring up to 80,000 to Easton this weekend. The bridge carries an average of 16,500 vehicles in both directions every day.
If you're looking to earn some extra cash during the Christmas season, UPS wants to hire nearly 1200 employees in the Lehigh Valley. UPS is holding a hiring event both today and tomorrow from 10am-3pm at 1620 Van Buren Road in Easton. They're looking to hire delivery and CDL drivers, warehouse workers and driver helpers.
A new tenant has moved into the Airport Shopping Center. Trek Bicycle Allentown opened in between the former Roma Ristorante space and Mattress Firm. It closed a previous location on Tilghman St. in Allentown in September to relocate to the new location. The chain has another Lehigh Valley site on Bushkill St. in Easton.
A tractor-trailer carrying wood crashed in a rest stop parking lot in the Poconos. The truck rolled over just before 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the Scotrun rest area off of Interstate 80 eastbound in Pocono Township. Nobody was injured.
A person who helped launch Dr. Mehmet Oz's career is backing his opponent in next Tuesday's Senate race in Pennsylvania. "If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would've already cast my vote for John Fetterman for many reasons," Oprah Winfrey says. John Fetterman's campaign released a statement saying, "It speaks volumes that Oprah Winfrey would endorse Fetterman over Oz, after declining to weigh in during Oz's primary election by saying that 'it's up to the residents of Pennsylvania to decide who will represent them.'"
The FBI is warning of a threat against synagogues in New Jersey and is urging caution. Its Newark office says it has credible information, describing the threat as "broad", but didn't provide other details. FBI Newark tweeted that people should "take all security precautions to protect your community and facility" and people should stay alert. They added, "in case of emergency,.call police."
New Jersey is making its unemployment insurance system more efficient. Governor Phil Murphy has signed legislation to ensure more transparency and timely benefit payments. Lawmakers introduced the bill in response to processing delays and long wait times experienced at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Officials say more than two-million New Jerseyans were paid a total of 37 million-dollars during the pandemic.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is the first elected official to get behind the new "Buy Legal" cannabis initiative. The national campaign kicked off at the Black CannaBiz Expo in New Orleans to educate adult consumers on the benefits of buying cannabis through the legal market rather than on the street. The Governor noted that since adult-use cannabis became legal in New Jersey, the state's Cannabis Regulatory Commission has established a market that's catalyzed economic growth in local communities and created safe product standards. He also noted cannabis isn't immune to the illegal market, and this campaign will help protect the ability of local, regulated cannabis enterprises to do business both safely and with accountability, while protecting the safety of consumers.
An “extremely rare” first-edition copy of the U.S. constitution will be up for auction next month. The copy-which is one of 13 known to exist-is expected to get bids of up to $30 million. Sotheby’s says it’s only one of two such editions that are in private hands and will also be up for sale for the first time in over 125 years. The auction house additionally notes that the last time they sold another privately owned copy of the Constitution last year it went for $43.2 million. The live sale of this copy will take place in New York on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Fire officials have a friendly but important message. Everyone, they say, should take a moment to test their smoke alarms this weekend. The advisory comes as daylight saving time will end and folks should also change the batteries in the life-saving devices as well. All of your clocks should be set back by an hour before heading to bed tomorrow night.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson has taken the same even-keel approach since getting the job in early June. He maintains that even after losing Game Five of the World Series 3-2 that pushed the Astros to one win from winning the series. "I think the approach is the same that we've had. We're going to come out the next day and go get 'em. Prepare. Compete. These guys are going to show up. I guarantee it. They're going to fight until the end," Thomson says. Two outstanding defensive plays by the Astros helped preserve their one-run lead in the eighth and ninth innings and the Phillies stranded 12 baserunners in the loss. Game Six is tomorrow night in Houston.
