After being closed nearly all weekend, traffic is rolling again on part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The Northeast Extension was closed between the Lehigh Valley and Mahoning Valley interchanges so crews could replace the 90-foot bridge that carries the highway over Huckleberry Road in South Whitehall Township. Construction went off without a hitch and the turnpike reopened late Sunday night, about six hours ahead of schedule. Workers used a technique called accelerated bridge construction, in which the replacement bridge is built nearby and slid into place to replace the old one, allowing crews to replace a bridge in one weekend rather than over a year or more.

The midterm elections are now just over three weeks away. Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz claims during a rally that the Democrats have no accomplishments to run on, and describes the message the GOP needs to push over the next three weeks. "If you're not talking about the economy, talking about crime and talking about fentanyl and the border, you're losing opportunities. There's no way that a voter can look at those three options and think the Democratic Party has the answers. Quite the opposite," Oz said. Oz and Democrat John Fetterman are locked in a tight race, which some experts believe could determine the control of the U.S. Senate.
Current Gov. Tom Wolf and former Pennsylvania governors Tom Ridge, Mark Schweiker and Tom Corbett attended a memorial service for former Gov. Richard Thornburgh. Thornburgh's son, John, said his father believed holding public office was a noble position. "My father had the highest regard for the office of governor and great admiration for those who have served the commonwealth at the highest levels," John Thornburgh said. Richard Thornburgh died two years ago but the memorial service was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Powerball jackpot is now up to nearly half-a-billion dollars. Lottery officials say the top prize is four-hundred-80-million dollars after no winners were selected Saturday. It has been over two months since a player has taken home a Powerball jackpot. The next drawing is tonight.
The Philadelphia Eagles are 6-0 after beating Dallas 26-17 on Sunday Night Football. Quarterback Jalen Hurts says he and his teammates cannot become satisfied. "We want to continue to grow. To grow together. It's not going to be easy. It's a climb and the higher you get in that climb, it gets more treacherous," Hurts says. The Eagles have a bye this coming weekend before taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 30th.
