What's being reported as a level 1 mass casualty incident has taken place at an Allentown daycare. Every Allentown ambulance was reportedly activated to respond to the situation at the Happy Smiles Learning Center on Wabash Street. First responders were called to facility after a child passed out. When they arrived, their carbon monoxide monitors went off, indicating carbon monoxide was present. We're told 26 people, including several children were taken to four local hospitals. All are currently listed in stable condition. A level 1 mass casualty incident means emergency responders and hospitals could become overrun with patients.
Last week, Congresswoman Susan Wild and challenger Lisa Scheller taped a debate at Muhlenberg College. Last night on WFMZ's "Business Matters", the first half of the exchange aired. One of the topics was immigration, with Wild saying legal immigration is America's fabric. "That is what this country was built on. It was built on immigrants who came here legally, which I completely agree should be the standard, absolutely," Wild said. Scheller also emphasized she backs legal immigration. "I want to make sure the people have the American dream who come here legally," Scheller said. The second half of the debate will be aired next Monday night.
Plans for a new hospital in Lehigh County have been put on hold. Lehigh Valley Health Network's proposal to develop a hospital on the land at Whitehall Farms on Lehigh Street and Municipal Drive was denied Monday night during the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners meeting. Commissioners say LVHN's failure to ease their concerns about traffic issues as their primary reason they did not vote to move ahead the plan. Currently, the property in question is zoned for 154 residential lots.
Mid Penn Bank will officially open its first full-service branch in the Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. The bank will be at 3900 Hamilton Blvd. in South Whitehall Township, across the street from Dorney Park. The new office is in the Shops at 3900 Hamilton Center, also home to Bixler's Jewelers, Talbot's, Barre3 Studio and other businesses.
A 69-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly inappropriately talked to and groped several female students during Palisades' homecoming game Friday night. Jay Donchez, of the Wind Gap/Pen Argyl area, was charged with indecent assault and harassment and is out on $25,000 unsecured bail.
The Monroe County District Attorney's office is trying to cut down the amount of fatal overdose cases with a new program. The DA's office launched the Overdose Fatality Review Program recently. The first meeting will take place next month as case managers will look at two cases each meeting.
Pennsylvanians are being asked to nominate their favorite trail for the 2023 Trail of the Year. The DCNR's Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee annually designates a Trail of the Year to help build enthusiasm for the rec areas and to raise public awareness about the value of the state's trail network. The Delaware Canal State Park Towpath was Pennsylvania's 2022 Trail of the Year. Nominations will be accepted online through November 11th.
Emotional distress counts have been added to a lawsuit against the Little League World Series for a boy who fell out of his bunk bed in the facility's dorm. Philadelphia Court records show the Utah family of Easton Oliverson has amended its lawsuit against the organization and the bunk-bed maker to include the additional counts. It also adds the boy's father Jace as a plaintiff because he saw the incident happen. Easton's skull was fractured in August when he fell during a stay at the facility in South Williamsport.
The Pennsylvania House of Democrats says senior House of Representatives member, Tony DeLuca, has passed away from lymphoma at the age of 85. DeLuca died Sunday in his home from lymphoma, a disease that he previously had beaten twice. DeLuca represented the 32nd Legislative District in the Pittsburgh area for a total of 39 years.
It has been four years since a gunman shot and killed 11 people and wounded six at the Tree of Life synagogue n Squirrel Hill. The community is marking the tragedy with a series of events to honor the victims, beginning this weekend and every weekend until November sixth. This Sunday, the 10-dot-27 Healing Partnership will join the Black Political Empowerment Project and the League of Women Voters for a voter registration drive downtown and on the North Side. Each of the 20 events will commemorate a value of the Jewish faith .
New Jersey health officials are announcing the latest round of COVID-19 numbers in the state including more than 800 news cases and at least one new death. New positive cases of COVID-19 in New Jersey totaled upwards of 865. So far, since the pandemic's on-set, there have been over two-point-three million positive cases. The state is also reporting that more than 14-point-3 million vaccine doses have been administered. The current rate of transmission remains below one at roughly point-9-8.
A new report shows that New Jersey renters are third in the country when it comes to being behind on their payments. The study inked by real estate listing service My-E-Listing-dot-com, says it used information from the Census Bureau to compile their data. The report shows 24 percent of Garden State renters are struggling with making their payments on time. The only states ahead of New Jersey are Alabama at 25 percent and South Dakota at 26 percent. Analysts found New Jersey's percentage has jumped from 16 percent in 2020.
It's official. Rob Thomson is being kept as the Phillies manager. Team president Dave Dombrowski says Thomson has earned the two-year contract that takes him through the 2024 season. "I've been continually impressed on how he's handled everything throughout the year. So the mind has been leaning that way for an extended period, but like everything else you continue to take in information all the time. So, it's really been a lengthy period where I have felt that way," Dombrowski said. Thomson's regular season record was 65-46 after he replaced Joe Girardi in early June.
