Three firefighters were hurt while fighting a house fire in Northampton County over the weekend. The fire broke out around 9 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Hemlock Lane in Lower Nazareth Township. Three firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They cleared the scene by about 11:30 p.m. It's not yet known what sparked the fire or if anyone was home.
Police in Allentown are looking for those responsible for gunfire early Sunday morning. The shots were reported near Synergy Hookah Lounge on Union Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. Investigators say witnesses at the scene were not cooperative, and little evidence has been gathered so far. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Allentown Police Department.
State police Sunday said an Easton man was killed in a crash between a motorcycle and SUV Friday in Northampton County. 32-year-old Benjamin Blampied was killed when a SUV turned left from Route 611 North onto Browns Drive. That SUV, which was driven by a 49-year-old Easton man, hit the motorcycle head-on, killing Blampied. State police say charges are pending an investigation.
Crayola has aggressive plans for its Crayola Experience venues. The company says it will add at least five Crayola Experience venues over the next five years. While all five will be here in the United States, Crayola says global expansion is also planned. The Crayola Experience started in downtown Easton and has since expanded to Orlando, Florida; Plano, Texas; Mall of America, Minnesota, and Chandler, Arizona.
Seven weeks from tomorrow, Pennsylvania voters will choose their next U.S. Senator. Republican Mehmet Oz is talking a lot about the economy. "Hard working folks are trying to make ends meet with the Biden economy. I have to say, it's shocking to see what has happened to the Pennsylvania economy, just like it is all over the country. They're driving it into the ground," Oz says. While Democrat John Fetterman promotes abortion rights. "Dr. Oz believes that every abortion is a murder. Who believes that? He said that," Fetterman says. It appears Fetterman and Oz will only have one debate, October 25th.
Thousands of pro-life activists are expected in Harrisburg for today's March for Life event. While this is the second annual march, this is the first in Pennsylvania since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade back in June. Organizers say today's event will be a celebration of the Supreme Court's decision, but also a push for Pennsylvania to pass its own laws protecting unborn life. Events kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, just down the street from the Capitol.
State police say they will be extra diligent this week about enforcing the use of seatbelts. The department is warning drivers ahead of time that with the Click It or Ticket enforcement, drivers stopped for a traffic violation can expect to receive two citations. They will get one for the original infraction and another for the seatbelt violation.
Pennsylvania's Task Force One is deploying to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Fiona. Gov. Tom Wolf announced two members of the state's specialized emergency response team are helping with the relief effort. At last check, more than a million residents of Puerto Rico were without power after the storm made landfall yesterday. The governor says the state's emergency management assistance compact will be on standby to offer more assistance if needed.
A New Jersey lawmaker wants retailers to be up front about surcharges when customers use credit cards. Assemblyman Paul Moriarty says his proposed legislation would apply to restaurants, stores, and other businesses that might charge convenience fees. It would also cap how much a surcharge would be. In a video statement, the assemblyman says people might go to restaurants and get through the whole meal only to find out they'll have to pay extra if they use a card and by then it's too late to give the food back.
The Philadelphia Eagles' home opener is tonight against Minnesota on Monday Night Football. New Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown can't wait. "I'm very excited for the first home game. I just think the place is going to be on fire. I keep hearing so much about it. I think the place is going to be electric and it's going to be tough to play at if I'm the opposing team," Brown says. Both the Eagles and Vikings are 1-0.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are climbing after a big win over Auburn Saturday. Penn State beat the Tigers 41-12 at Auburn to improve to 3-0 on the young season. The Nittany Lions have now moved into the number 14 spot in the nation after entering the season unranked. The last time Penn State was unranked in the preseason was 2016, the same year they went on to win the Big Ten championship.
