Easton's Heritage Day ended with a shooting. Police say the gunfire happened around 9:45 Sunday night as fireworks were being shot into the sky to conclude the day-long celebration. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and is not cooperating with the investigation. Police believe the victim and suspect, who's also believed to be a teenage boy, were part of a larger group of people who had gotten into a disturbance of some sort a couple blocks away from the celebration. The incident caused many in the crowd to scurry to safety. Nobody in the crowd was injured.
Three people have been killed in an overnight crash on I-80 in Carbon County. It happened just after 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, about a mile before the exit for the Northeast Extension. A tractor-trailer and a van were involved in the crash. The coroner's office says the driver of the tractor-trailer and two occupants in the van were all killed. Five other people inside the van were injured. I-80 East is down to one-lane near Exit 274.
The coroner's office is calling a man's shooting death a homicide. Police say Edwin Diaz-Rivera died Saturday night after he was shot in the 700 block of North 11th Street in Allentown. The 37-year-old died from his gunshot wounds at a local hospital. Allentown police and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office Homicide Task Force are investigating.
A Lehigh County man died in a weekend crash in Berks County. 29-year-old Myles Muth of Germansville was killed in a Sunday morning crash in Albany Township. Police say Muth lost control of his motorcycle and hit an embankment just a little before 8 o'clock Sunday morning.
A theater in Lancaster County has decided not to show an independent movie featuring right-wing Pennsylvania figures. The film "Return of the American Patriot" was supposed to premiere this coming Saturday and had been billed as an exploration of the populist right movement in Pennsylvania and featured St. Sen. Doug Mastriano, the Republican candidate for governor. The move comes after pushback from the group Lancaster Stands Up, which calls itself a group founded on a commitment to the common good and taking back our democracy. The movie’s producer accused Penn Cinema of caving to “woke” pressure and is threatening to sue the venue for breach of contract.
Last year Kyle Schwarber was selected for the All-Star Game but couldn't play due to injury. This year, Schwarber is good to go and says he's looking forward to the game in Los Angeles next Tuesday. "It's definitely an honor to be able to represent the Phillies and hopefully I can represent the Phillies pretty well," Schwarber says. Bryce Harper won the fan vote as the starting designated hitter but cannot play because of a broken thumb.
