Miraculously, nobody was killed in a Sunday crash in Northampton County. Ten-to-15 motorcycles were involved in a crash on Route 22 East near Route 378. Several people were taken to the hospital, but all are expected to survive the accident, which closed 22 East Sunday afternoon. Investigators have not determined what caused the accident.
An annual memorial ceremony has honored Lehigh Valley workers who lost their lives on the job. John Werkheiser organizes the event and says it's an important day. "We take a half-hour of our year to stop and think about how jobs can be done safer and that people can come home from work as everybody should have the right to do," Werkheiser says. The event happened Sunday at the Lehigh Valley Workers Memorial at the Rose Garden in Bethlehem.
One person is being treated at the hospital after a weekend fire in Monroe County. The blaze broke out Saturday morning at a home in the 200 block of Kims Way in Stroudsburg. Authorities are still investigating the cause of a the fire and the victim's condition is unknown at this time.
The Saint Luke's Half Marathon has a new pair of winners following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 2000 runners registered for the contest Sunday. Alex Price of Bethlehem took first in the men's race, finishing in just over an hour and ten minutes. Women's race winner, Jenn Cronin of Montgomery County, finished in just over an hour and 19 minutes.
Marijuana enthusiasts are renewing their push for legal weed in the state. Thousands gathered at Renninger's Farmers Market in Kutztown for the Pennsylvania Cannabis Festival Saturday and Sunday. There was live music, discussion panels, and more than 250 vendors on site. Medical marijuana became legal in Pennsylvania back in 2016, but recreational marijuana is still against the law.
Almost 50 Democrats have now joined the fight to try to extend Title 42, which the White House plans to end next month. Among those 50 is Pennsylvania Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan. "Title 42's original intent was designed because we were in a global pandemic, an unprecedented global pandemic and we still are," Houlahan says. The border policy makes it easier to expel migrants based on concerns of them spreading COVID-19. Customs officials are predicting they will encounter 18,000 migrants daily when Title 42 ends.
A house fire is to blame for claiming the lives of a man and three-kids in Philadelphia. Flames ripped through a home early Sunday morning. Authorities say one woman jumped from the second floor to safety while the others were unable to escape. There's still no word on what sparked the fire.
