Allentown police hope witnesses come forward with information about a shooting over the weekend. Police were called just after 9:30 Saturday night to the 300 Block of North Maxwell Street in Allentown for reports of a shooting. One man was seriously injured and was taken to an area hospital. Investigators have issued an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Isaiah Brown on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Brown's last-known address was on Maryland Circle in Whitehall. Instead of 'start your engines' it was 'lower your windows' over the weekend at Pocono Raceway for Monroe County's first mass COVID-19 vaccination event. Lehigh Valley Health Network gave the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine to more than 3000 people at a drive-thru clinic. These folks rolled up their sleeves and couldn't be more pleased. "It's like a whole new freedom. It really is," one woman said.
The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association is unhappy with the state's changes to its COVID-19 vaccine rollout. This comes after the state announced it will restrict vaccine supplies to less than 300 providers in an effort to speed up distribution, but it will cut off supplies to smaller providers. PPA officials urge the state to reconsider their approach and say pharmacists are among the most universally trusted and accessible healthcare professionals, especially among rural and other at-risk communities.
A former Allentown Diocese priest's prison sentence has been upheld by a Lehigh County judge. 33-year-old Kevin Lonergan was sentenced to one-to-two years in state prison for groping a 17-year-old Allentown Central High School student and sending her 20 sexually explicit photos and videos. Lehigh County Judge Maria Dantos issued the sentence and the state Superior Court has upheld it. Lonergan will also be a registered sex offender for 15 years after his release from prison. He had been serving at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Allentown.
A 35-year-old New Jersey man accused of punching and stabbing a woman in Bethlehem managed to escape from police in a high speed chase. Last Wednesday, Christopher Alexander allegedly tracked down a woman, who had ended their relationship earlier that the day at a home on East Eighth Street on Southside Bethlehem. After allegedly assaulting the woman, Alexander took off at a high rate of speed, hit a car, ran red lights while Bethlehem police chased until they stopped due to speeds reaching an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour. State police picked up the chase on I-78 until troopers also broke off the pursuit when Alexander reached 130 miles per hour.
Lawmakers are looking at a bill that would make roads in Pennsylvania safer for bikers. St. Rep. David Maloney is sponsoring a bill named after two women who both died after being struck by cars while riding their bikes to work. Maloney says the bill would allow cars to park 12 inches from a curb in order to make space for bike lanes. He says a collision can happen anywhere, but this legislation should add some protection for bikers from oncoming traffic.
New Jersey is launching the second phase of its COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program. $353 million is going towards helping tenants across the state pay their rent. The program is geared toward households with low-to-moderate income and even the state's homeless population. Applications opened this morning.
New Jerseyans now have more time to file their taxes. The state says residents there have until May 17th to complete tax filings and settle payments. It follow the steps the IRS has taken to automatically extend the original deadline from April 15th.
