Two DeSales University graduates and one current DeSales student are dead and a fourth DeSales student is seriously injured after a fiery Saturday night crash on Lanark Road in Upper Saucon Township. Father Jim Greenfield is the DeSales president and addressed the tragedy at Sunday morning Mass. "It's with great sadness that I want to invite prayers. We had a very serious car crash Saturday night involving four members of our university community," Greenfield said. Nicholas White and Emily Kattner, both 2020 DeSales grads, were killed as was current DeSales senior Sean Hanczaryk. DeSales senior Brandon Dichiacchio is also in critical condition. The crash happened just after 8:30 Saturday night when the car carrying the four left the road and hit a tree. The investigation continues.
Authorities are investigating the cause of a crash in Berks County that killed one teenager and injured four other people. The one-vehicle rollover crash happened in Richmond Township Sunday morning. Three 17-year-olds and two 19-year-olds were taken to the hospital. One of the 17-year-old girls died.
The second person shot outside the Whitehall Walmart late last month has died. 22-year-old Jonathan Martinez died Sunday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. The Allentown man's death was ruled a homicide. 23-year-old Edward Rosario-Jiminez, is already charged with homicide in the death of the other victim, 20-year-old Nicolette Law. The shooting happened February 26th in the parking lot of the Walmart on MacArthur Road during a child custody drop-off. A woman has told police she had gone to the parking lot with Rosario-Jiminez to pick up her child, who is also the child of Martinez. Police said Rosario-Jiminez got into an argument with one of the victims before opening fire.
A man is dead after a workplace accident at East Penn Manufacturing. The accident happened late Saturday night at East Penn's plant in Lyons. Officials say a 30-year-old man was found dead in the Smelter building after he was involved in a fall. The accident is being investigated by both OSHA and the police.
A man wanted for an Allentown shooting has been found dead in New York City. The body of Emilary Milien Jr. was found in an alleyway just after 10:30 Saturday morning in New York City. His cause of death has not been released yet. Roughly ten hours before Milien's body was found, Allentown police say he was involved in a shooting in the 400 block of Greenleaf Street. The man wounded in that incident is expected to survive.
In a 50-49 vote, the U.S. Senate passed the latest COVID relief package. Pennsylvania's two senators were on opposite sides of the vote. Republican Pat Toomey says spending $1.9 trillion simply isn't necessary at this time. "This economy is recovering enormously. We don't have the entire economy locked down the way my state was for months one end last summer," Toomey says. Democratic Sen. Bob Casey said on Twitter, "Now that the Senate has passed the American Rescue Plan, the country is one step closer to putting the virus behind us."
New Jersey's educators and childcare workers are now allowed to make an appointment to receive the coronavirus vaccine. It comes more than a week before the original window to schedule appointments was set to open. Gov. Phil Murphy says thousands of teachers are no eligible to receive the vaccine, calling it a game changer in the return to classrooms.
More than 2.4-million coronavirus vaccines have been administered in New Jersey. More than 1.6-million of them are first doses. The state's goal is to vaccinate nearly 5,000,000 residents within the next few months. It comes as the state reported 2077 new coronavirus cases Sunday and 17 new coronavirus-related deaths.
A group is calling for New Jersey's undocumented workers to get more help amide the coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of workers and immigrant women gathered in Passaic County for the Excluded Women March. The group is demanding the state provide undocumented workers who are currently unemployed because of the pandemic weekly payments of $600.
The BBC is apologizing to New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker. It comes after the network interviewed a man who posed as him during a radio interview last week. Booker hasn't yet commented on the mistake.
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is giving back to the Philadelphia community. Embiid will donate his $100,000 winnings from last night's NBA's All-Star Game to local homeless shelters. Meanwhile, Embiid and teammate Ben Simmons were late scratches from the game after being considered as close contacts to a barber who tested positive for the virus.
