According to a sign posted on its door, the Queen City Diner on Lehigh Street will close on March 15. The sign said coupons and gift certificates will be honored at the diner's sister location, East Penn Diner in Emmaus.
A man's body was found along the bank of the Jordan Creek late Thursday morning. The body was found near a wooded trail near South Fourth and West Hamilton streets. An autopsy is being performed today to determine how the man died.
A pioneer within the Allentown Police Department has retired. Assistant Chief Gail Struss has retired after serving with the Allentown PD for 23 years. Struss is the only woman to ever be an assistant chief in the department. Capt. William Lake was promoted to assistant chief, and Capt. Michael Becker was promoted to Criminal Investigations.
A Trans-Bridge bus burst into flames on Interstate 78 in New Jersey during the Thursday morning commute. The bus was going eastbound on I-78 in Union Township when it caught fire around 7 a.m. All passengers and the driver made it off safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Renovations will mean the Fine Wine & Good Spirits on Stefko Boulevard in Bethlehem will be temporarily closing. Beginning Sunday night, the state Liquor Control Board says the store will be closed for an undisclosed length of time until renovations are complete.
A group is taking the Commonwealth to court over a Berks County facility that houses immigrant families in the country illegally. The lawsuit was announced by Shut Down Berks Coalition Thursday during a protest outside the Department of Human Services' offices in Philadelphia.
Lt. Gov John Fetterman has unblocked 2-men on twitter who he says were body shaming his wife. Fetterman had posted a photo of his wife in traditional carnival garb, then blocked the men after they commented. The two men threatened a lawsuit, claiming their first amendment rights were being violated. Fetterman says he doesn't buy the free-speech argument. "If you want to write what you write or say what you say, you can, but you're not going to do it in a thread about my wife. It has no place. Peddle it somewhere else," Fetterman says. In a statement, Fetterman said he was unblocking the two, but would not offer an apology.
Pennsylvania DHS Secretary Teresa Miller has joined anti-hunger advocates at the Capitol to oppose the Trump administration's proposals to devalue the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP. "When did we move away from lifting up people who need help and turn to shaming people in need?" Miller asks. The Trump administration has finalized new work requirement rules that would cut food stamp benefits for an estimated 700,000 Americans. The average food stamp payout is said to be $36 per month. Supporters say the move protects U.S. taxpayers by motivating anyone who can work to get a job and support themselves.
There are plenty of new faces at Phillies spring training this year, including manager Joe Girardi and some who've played for him in the past. Pitcher Aaron Nola says those players have nothing but good things to say about the Phils' new skipper. "You get these guys who have played for Joe and know how he works. I haven't heard anything but good things about him as a manager and we're definitely excited to get things rolling here in spring training," Nola says. The Phillies open spring training play tomorrow against Detroit.
