A cook at Lafayette College is wanted for allegedly repeatedly threatening to shoot his coworkers. A warrant was issued for Amiru Richardson on two counts of making terroristic threats over the last two weeks. Police met with the 22-year-old on February 10th when they searched him, his bag and his locker, saying they wanted to make sure people were safe. Charges were filed after talking to other witnesses, according to police.
Firefighters from more than a dozen fire companies in Berks and Lehigh counties helped fight a fire at a chemical plant in Longswamp Township. Black smoke puffed into the sky above the Atlas Minerals and Chemicals plant Monday. Neighbors reported a strange odor, but officials say they don't believe anything hazardous got into the air. The plant owner says he believes an electrical problem ignited a sulfur scrubber, which scorched nearby buildings. No one was hurt.
Police are still investigating weekend gunshots in the 1100-block of Maple Street in Allentown. It happened Sunday night. Police say no one was injured but a window in a vehicle was shattered.
A school bus driver is accused of asking a 17-year-old Nazareth Area High School student for a topless photo of her. 48-year-old Robert Lucas has reportedly admitted to asking the girl for the photo and admits he received a picture but later deleted it from his phone. Lucas faces harassment and corruption of a minor charges.
The Pennsylvania Cannibis Festival, which attracted an estimated 10,000 people, dozens of vendors and live music to Scranton last year, is relocating to Kutztown. The one-day event outgrew its space in Scranton, with parking problems one of the deciding factors in moving to Renningers Kutztown Farmers and Antiques Market. The new location also means the event can now happen over two days, on April 18th and 19th. Admission is free. The event is expected to draw about 15,000 guests.
Nearly 400 used vehicles will be up for bid during the Department of General Services' first auction of 2020. The auction is set for next Tuesday at Manheim Keystone Pennsylvania in Grantville and will include several vehicles seized by police as well as vehicles previously used by state agencies. Preregistration starts this Friday at the auction site. Buyers can purchase the vehicles with cash or certified funds.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia gets its new Archbishop this afternoon. The Most Reverend Nelson Perez will be installed today at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. "I trust in God's providence and I trust in the good people of the City of Philadelphia," Perez says. Perez will replace the retiring Charles Chaput (SHAP-pew) and will become the Archdiocese's tenth Archbishop.
Last season, Jean Segura was the Phillies everyday shortstop. This year, Segura will either play second base or third base, which is where he worked out Monday. Manager Joe Girardi liked what he saw. "He looked really good there today. He almost looked really natural there," Girardi said Monday. The Phils signed Didi Gregorius in the offseason and he'll be the regular shortstop this year. Segura and Scott Kingery are expected to play either third base or second base this season.
