While the call to impeach President Trump is getting a bit louder in his party, Pennsylvania Democrat Congressman Matt Cartwright tells Fox News he isn't joining the chorus just yet. "I'm against it at this point. Clearly there's not enough ground swell of support for that in this country," Cartwright says. A NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows 27-percent of Americans believe there's enough evidence to begin impeachment hearings for President Trump.
An Allentown man faces charges for his role in a phony-contest scheme that defrauded victims of thousands of dollars. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Anthony Redd has been indicted on charges of money laundering and mail fraud. Redd allegedly received money orders for a fake contest promising cash and prizes. If convicted, the government could seize more than $280,000 from Redd and he could end up spending the rest of his life in prison.
At least one person is hospitalized after a three-car crash ln Bethlehem. The vehicles collided Sunday afternoon on Route 378 over the southbound Hill to Hill Bridge. Police have not identified the injured person or described the extent of any injuries sustained in the crash.
Pennsylvania's opioid disaster declaration remains in place. Gov. Tom Wolf has signed the declaration for the sixth time, allowing state agencies to work with other groups on ways to fight back against the epidemic. It's reported overdose deaths were down 20-percent in 2018 compared to one year earlier.
A flour recall is growing over fears of E. coli contamination. The recall has expanded to include about 5000 bags of Pillsbury Best bread flour that was sold by Hometown Food Company. They were shipped to nearly a dozen states on the East Coast, including Pennsylvania. So far, the CDC hasn't had any reports of people becoming sick from the Pillsbury flour, but there have been 17 reported cases of E. coli infection connected to some kind of flour.
One person is dead and seven others injured after a shooting at a graduation party in Southwest Philadelphia. Police Commissioner Richard Ross Jr. says four of the victims are teenagers. "Those people sustained gunshot wounds mostly to the leg, maybe to the arm. None of those are fatalities. We also have four adults who sustained gunshot wounds to various parts of their bodies. They're all in their 20s," Ross says. Overall, at least 20 people were shot over the weekend in Philadelphia. Four of them died.
Pennsylania is expanding the area it's monitoring for Chronic Wasting Disease among deer. New cases have been reported in Franklin, Juniata, Perry and six other counties. The disease doesn't infect humans, though the CDC suggests people not eat meat from those infected animsls.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says hunting and fur-taking licenses for the 2019-2020 season go on sale today. General hunting licenses and fur-taker licenses still cose about $21 for residents and about $102 for non-residents. Resident seniors can also buy lifetime combination licenses covering both hunting and fur-taking, but still must purchases bear licenses and permits to pursue bobcats, fishers and river otters.
Democrat lawmakers are introducing a state budget proposal today that drops the tax increases on millionaires already pitched by fellow Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy. The budget being presented today also leaves out Murphy's plans to creat new taxes on guns and penalize Garden State businesses that don't provide health insurance. It does however hold onto Murphy's planned $3.8 billion payment to New Jersey's public-worker pension system. Murphy and lawmakers in the state legislature have only a few weeks to come to an agreement or possibly face a state government shutdown.
Philadelphia Phillies centerfielder Odubel Herrera is facing a judge today to answer to assault charges. Herrera, who's currently on administrative leave that ends today, is scheduled to appear in an Atlantic County courtroom at 1pm on a count of simple assault. Herrera was arrested May 27th at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
