President Trump held a Monday night rally in Montoursville where he took a shot at Pennsylvania-born former vice president and Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden. The President claims Biden abandoned his home state. "This guy talks about how he knows Scranton, well I know those places better. He left you for another state and he didn't take care of you because he didn't take care of your jobs," President Trump said. Biden moved to Delaware as a child and represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate 36 years before becoming President Obama's vice president.
It's primary election day in Pennsylvania. Today's vote will determine who'll represent their party this fall for several high-profile offices, including the State Superior Court a contested Easton mayoral primary and mayor in Allentown. With John Morganelli's decision to not seek re-election, there are two Democrats seeking to replace him as Northampton County district attorney. There are three open seats in the state Legislature and numerous local races on the ballot as well. Polls remain open until 8pm.
Police in Bethlehem are warning the public to stay away from the Martin Tower site. The former Bethlehem Steel headquarters is now a fenced off pile of debris that's both an active construction zone and private property. Police Chief Mark DiLuzio says he's seen social media chatter concerning people hoping to find a piece to keep as a memento, but it's not a place for souvenir hunters. The chief adds that anyone caught trespassing will be charged under state laws.
The man accused of shooting three people outside an Allentown nightclub and killing one, is admitting to the crime. Joshua Colon pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder and other offenses. Colon admits to firing at people outside the now-defunct Club Dubai back in March 2017, killing Easton's Paul Prieto and injuring two other men. Colon will be sentenced in late August and is expected to receive somewhere between 28 and 56 years in state prison.
Former Allentown Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald is out as police chief in Fort Worth, Texas. City Manager David Cooke gave Fitzgerald his walking papers Monday. "In determining what is best for the city of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police Department, I have decided to remove Chief Fitzgerald as police chief effective today," Cooke said. Fitzgerald's termination comes weeks after he was kicked out of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas and just days after he had a heated encounter with the state union's president in Washington, DC. Fitzgerald's attorney says Fitzgerald will appeal his firing.
A Carbon County man already sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a minor is having even more tagged onto his sentence. Palmerton's Jordan Beggan is having an additional nine-to-24 months tacked onto his current 22-to-72 month term for sexually assaulting a student at Behavorial Health Associates school in Schuylkill County and a concurrent six months to a year for engaging in unlawful contact with a different underage victim.
State Department of Transportation officials say Pennsylvania's Real ID system is now in line with federal regulations. The official word came from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Monday. The new Real IDs being issued can be used to board commercial airlines and to enter federal facilities beginning in October 2020.
New Jersey lawmakers are moving the state's medical marijuana program forward. The Assembly voted Monday to advance legislation that would revise the requirements necessary to authorize and access medical cannabis while providing legal protections to both patients and caregivers. A bill covering the same ground was also introduced in the state Senate and was referred to the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. Gov. Phil Murphy did not publicly comment on Monday's legislative developments.
Philadelphia 76ers forward James Ennis is opting out of his contract for next season. Ennis will decline his nearly $2 million player option and enter free agency this summer. He averaged 7.5 points per game for the Sixers during the playoffs.
