An autopsy is happening today to determine the cause of death for a man whose body was found this week along the Bushkill Creek. The body of James Brittian was discovered Wednesday in Easton in the water near Bushkill Drive. Authorities had already found the Maryland man's car on Monday close to where his body was discovered. Police say there's no related threat to the general public.
A Northampton County man is facing charges for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. Bethlehem's Traver Tilley was arraigned Wednesday on a count of indecent assault of an unconscious person. Tilley allegedly attacked the female victim last March in a restroom of the casino's nightclub. Tilley denies having sexual contact with the victim, but a DNA examination and test results reportedly linked Tilley to the alleged assault.
A Bethlehem man claiming to be God is behind bars on a variety of drug and weapons charges. Police have jailed Harold Darden on counts related to possession of cocaine, PCP, crystal meth and a pocket Taser. Police say they had to tackle Darden back on April 19th when he was jumping up and down on top of a car and screaming that he was God, but also saying he was not OK. Darden wasn't placed into custody until Tuesday, but police aren't saying why there's a gap between the incident and the date he was jailed.
State police are filing charges against a truck driver for causing a fiery Berks County crash that killed a couple who were on the way to their wedding in Pittsburgh. Jaspreet Chahal, of California, is charged with vehicular homicide and other offenses. He allegedly was talking on his cell phone while driving west on I-78 in Windsor Township last November when he failed to slow down for stopped traffic. He then rear-ended an SUV, killing Kathryn Schurtz and her fiance Joseph Kearney.
After a long battle with cancer, longtime Philadelphia Phillies executive David Montgomery died Wednesday morning. Phillies legend Larry Bowa is distraught. "He was the best human being I've ever been around. Ever. He was like a father to me," Bowa said while weeping. David Montgomery was 72.
A Montgomery County man is facing charges for bringing a loaded handgun to the Trump International Hotel in Washington during an event. Norristown resident Lee McCartney reportedly told Secret Service agents he had a gun in his car as he pulled up to a security checkpoint at the hotel's entrance Tuesday afternoon. Police found a handgun and a high capacity magazine with 15 hollow point bullets. McCartney was arrested by DC police and charged with possessing an unregistered handgun and unregistered ammo.
Officials with Exelon Generation have confirmed they're planning to shut down Three Mile Island in a few months. In a statement Exelon officials said TMI's generating station unit 1 will shut down by September 30th as previously announced 2-years ago. A spokesperson says with only three legislative session days remaining before June 1st and no action taken to advance House Bill 11 or Senate Bill 510 it's clear a state policy solution will not be enacted in time to reverse what they're calling the premature retirement of the plant. The measures would allow nuclear power plants to enjoy some financial benefits granted to wind and solar stations as a way to keep them up and running.
The alleged conspirator in the GoFundMe scam case is officially being charged for his role. Mark D'Amico was indicted Wednesday on counts related to the financial facilitation of criminal activity, theft and computer theft. D'Amico, along with co-defendants Johnny Bobbit and Katelyn McClure reportedly created a phony story that inspired more than 14,000 people to donate more than $400,000 to their fraudulent crowdsourcing campaign. The scam claimed that the homeless Bobbitt gave his last $20 to McClure when she ran out of gas on I-95 and that D'Amico and McClure wanted to raise money to repay Bobbitt for his help.
